The 19th Annual Anugerah Musik Indonesia was held on September 28, 2016, at the Ecovention in Pademangan, North Jakarta.[1] The show was broadcast live on RCTI[2] and was hosted by Daniel Mananta.
The show was a collaboration between Anugerah Musik Indonesia Foundation and RCTI. The ceremony recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists of the eligibility year, which was from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.[3] The theme of this edition of annual awards show was Music is My Identity.[4] Musicians, singers, and composers were nominated for 50 different categories awards, which previously presented to the 53 awards at the 18th ceremony. The event was divided into three segments: AMI Awards Gala Night, Lifetime Achievement Awards, and The Winner's Concert.
Being nominated 9 times, Raisa became the third most-nominated artist in Anugerah Musik Indonesia history,[5] after Noah earned for 10 nominations at the 16th ceremony and Irma Darmawangsa for nominated with eleven times at the 14th ceremony; and also became first female singer with biggest winner in major music awards history for taking home seven trophy awards.[6] Followed by other winners Ayu Ting Ting and Isyana Sarasvati who winning three categories awards. Afgan, Rizky Febian, and other each took home two trophy awards.
Jazz musician alm. Ireng Maulana had receiving the AMI Legend Awards for his contribution to in building the jazz music industry ecosystem in Indonesia, including initiated an jazz festival Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival and his son, Tomi, was accepted the award on his behalf.[7] In addition, AMI Awards also giving the Lifetime Achievement Award to legend singer and songwriter Titiek Puspa.
