The Albanian American Student Organization (AASO) (Albanian: Organizata e Studentëve Shqiptaro-Amerikan) is a non-profit organization that is established by Albanian students in the United States

About

The AASO has been a thriving organization since its inception in 1998 by Gjon Juncaj at Wayne State University in Detroit. Our members are primarily college students attending universities and community colleges, initially throughout the metro Detroit area, and now nationwide. As a direct result of fundraising efforts and generous contributions from the community, AASO has been able to help dozens of students to further their higher education through the Gjergj Kastrioti Scholarship (GKS). The AASO has taken part in both political and economical relief efforts for Albanians in Albania, Kosova, Macedonia, Montenegro, and abroad as well as community enrichment programs such as volunteering and event planning within our own cities here in the US. The AASO takes pride in its efforts to enrich the Albanian community through intellectual enlightenment and social involvement. The founding members of the organization laid a foundation for the AASO’s goals and community respect and we, as current members, wish to carry this forward into the future.[1]

Scholarship

The Gjergj Kastrioti Scholarship (GKS) Fund was founded in 1999 as an extension of the Albanian American Student Organization in the State of Michigan. The goal is to provide scholarships to Albanian students that demonstrate a need and/or have maintained a history of a superior academic achievement Every year The GK’s fund receives highly qualified applicants and the need and competition is greater than ever.[2]
