Sciara is a small farming town. The main crops are tomatoes, artichokes and olives. Houses cost around 20,000 each depending on the size. A lot of houses are empty due to immigrating to the north of Italy, Germany or United States during the 1970s, 1980s, etc., due to poor economic conditions. A lot of immigrants still own their land and houses in Sciara and are very proud of where they come from.
