Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (イース VIII -Lacrimosa of DANA-) is a Japanese action role-playing game developed and published by the Nihon Falcom Corporation and the eighth installment in the Ys video game series. It was released in Japan in July 2016 for the Sony PlayStation Vita and it is scheduled to be released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017.[1]

Plot

By the archipelagos of the Goethe Sea located in south of Greece, Adol is on a passenger ship called “The Lombardia” that is headed from Xandria to the continent of Eresia. However, the ship is attacked and sunk by a giant creature, and Adol wakes up, he realizes he is on the shores of the cursed island, known as “Seiren Island.”

Development and reception

Ys VIII was unveiled in August 2014 on SCEJA Press Conference, with announced the game was set to be released on 2015 for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. Back then, the game was revealed as an "ultra-large new title" in the end of 2013. [2] The game title was announced in December 2014, with the released date was delayed to Q2/Q3 2016.[3]

The game will be the first PlayStation 4 title of the series,[4] also this is the first time that Falcom works for PlayStation 4.[5]

Famitsu score the game a 34/40. They stated the story is better than predecessors, and liked the pace of battle.[6]
