Nvidia's SHIELD Android TV (originally known as SHIELD Console[1] ) is an Android TV based set-top box aimed at both home entertainment and gaming in the living-room. Developed by Nvidia and first released in the end of May 2015,[2] this is Nvidia's third-generation "SHIELD" gaming hardware device, which all devices in the series use Android and Tegra based SoC (System on Chip). It is the first device from Nvidia to employ the Android TV platform and ecosystem. It can output 4K resolution to a television and support high definition audio at 192 kHz.[2] It supports Nvidia's GeForce NOW game-streaming service to play PC games on SHIELD from the cloud.

Nvidia released SHIELD Android TV software upgrade 1.1 on May 29, 2015,[7][8] software upgrade 1.2 on June 15, 2015,[9][10] software upgrade 1.3 on July 7, 2015.[11][12] & software upgrade 1.4 on September 3, 2015.[13][14]
Nvidia released SHIELD Android TV software upgrade 2.0 on October 1, 2015.[15][16] & software upgrade 2.1 on October 13, 2015.[17][18]
Nvidia released SHIELD Android TV software upgrade 3.0 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Feb 22, 2016.,[19] software upgrade 3.1 on April 18, 2016,[20] software upgrade 3.2 on June 29, 2016[21] & software upgrade 3.3 on October 28, 2016.[22]
