History
CEO Gene Zaino founded of MBO Partners in 1996.
Mission and Vision
MBO Partners was founded with the goal of making it easier for self-employed professionals and their clients to work together, and a vision of seeing the majority of the workforce become self-employed.
Customers
MBO Partners’ primary customers are self-employed professionals (freelancers, independent consultants and independent contractors), for which the company delivers proprietary processes for handling business setup, business insurance protections, enterprise opportunity selection, contract negotiation, work tracking, invoicing, cash management, expenses, benefits, payroll, and business management expertise.
Services
MBO provides self-employed professionals and enterprises software tools and proprietary services that enable them to work together compliantly. Currently, MBO’s Enterprise clients include many of the Fortune 500 companies that engage independent talent.
MBO enables independent professionals to outsource their back office needs with MBO Access™, an end-to-end business operating system that provides liability insurance, contract review and administration services, automated invoicing and payroll, expense compliance review and processing, quarterly tax administration, and tax-advantaged vehicles including Solo 401(k) and operating medical expense write-offs.
MBO also develops engagement solutions to meet the needs of enterprises that engage in procuring independent contractor talent. Additional tools and services include the MBO Connect™ direct-sourcing platform and virtual talent network, which is used by enterprises to re-engage independent talent repeatedly.
Published Works and Studies
MBO Partners issues an annual research report, the State of Independence in America, which examines the state of the independent workforce in America and provides a national baseline to help track trends and changes in the independent workforce over time.[1]
2016 marked the sixth year of the study, which found that 39.8 million Americans pursue Full- or Part-Time independent work. Research concluded that while the number of independent workers fell slightly, independence remains a viable – and lucrative – option for many workers in a rebounding economy.[2]
MBO Partners is regularly cited by mainstream media, including The New York Times, CNN, Forbes, Harvard Business Review and Money as a leading provider of independent workforce solutions.[3][4][5][6][7]
International Expansion
In April 2016, MBO Partners announced a new international sales and service strategy based on a network of qualified member firms, including Contracting PLUS, Ltd., who is authorized to operate licensees of MBO Partners Ireland, Ltd. (Cork, Dublin) and MBO Partners UK, Ltd. (London).[8]
