Littleworth is a hamlet in South Oxfordshire, about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east of Oxford, England.
History
There were two windmills on the hill about 300 yards (270 m) south of the hamlet. One was a post mill that burnt down in 1875. The other, Littleworth Mill, is an octagonal tower mill that dates from before 1671. It has been rebuilt and re-equipped a number of times, including in 1784 when the Eagle Ironworks, Oxford supplied some of the machinery. The tower mill had fallen out of use by 1915, but since 1977 the Wheatley Mill Restoration Society has been restoring it.[1]
In 1864 an extension of the Wycombe Railway from Thame to Oxford was built through Littleworth. British Railways closed the line and Wheatley station in 1963. Most of its route through Littleworth was in a cutting, with single-arched brick bridge carrying Littleworth Road over it. The bridge is still in use (April 2010).
Amenities
Littleworth has one public house, the Cricketer's Arms free house.[2]
Heyfordian Travel serves Littleworth with bus routes 103 and 104 to Oxford, Cowley, Wheatley and neighbouring villages.[3]
