This is a list of characters from the Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu animated series and related media.
The Masters of Spinjitzu
- Master Wu Garmadon (voiced by Paul Dobson) – Wu is the Ninjas' first teacher and leader as well being the uncle of Lloyd. He is the Master of Creation. He and his elder brother Garmadon are the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master, who created Ninjago through the power of Spinjitzu. Their father tasked them with protecting his Golden Weapons, but when Garmadon who was bitten by the Great Devourer and turned evil, Wu was forced to fight him and banish him to the Underworld. He then hid the Golden Weapons and began seeking out pupils worthy to carry on the legacy of Spinjitzu, and eventually found Cole, Zane, Jay, and Kai. Though his students succeeded in recovering the Golden Weapons, he found them to be childish upon learning of the prophecy of the Green Ninja. He also faced the challenge of dealing with his nephew Lloyd, who attempted to follow in his father's footsteps by unleashing the evil Serpentine. Recognizing the danger, he sought out his estranged brother, and the two briefly joined forces in order to rescue Lloyd. When it was learned that Lloyd was in fact the destined Green Ninja, Wu participated in his training but allowed his four pupils to take the lead. Master Wu confronted Pythor in an attempt to prevent the rise of the Great Devourer, and was swallowed by the Devourer along with his foe, but emerged unharmed thanks to the unlikely cooperation between his brother and students. Wu remained with the Ninja as they continued to face the threat of Lord Garmadon and the Serpentine, and later when the Overlord returned. During this time he was reunited with his old friend-and former crush-Misako, Lloyd's mother, and for a time it seemed like they might pick up their old relationship; however, Lloyd's defeat of the Overlord saw Garmadon returned to the side of good. In Season Three he and the ninja took over a children's school, but upon the Overlord's return he was captured by the Digital Overlord and tuned into Tech Wu to serve the Overlord Virus as its lackey. In "Enter The Digiverse", after The NinjaGo Ninjas defeated The Digital Overlord, Wu is turned back to normal. In the fourth season he learns that Garmadon forged his signature on a letter written by Wu to Misako, which was a major factor in Misako's decision to marry Garmadon. However, he is eventually able to forgive his brother for this. During season 5 he reveals to the ninja that he previously mentored Morro, and thought that he could become the Green Ninja, only for his former pupil to become enraged when it was determined he was not the chosen one. While the Ninja attempt to stop his former student and save a possessed Lloyd, Wu turns his attention towards instructing Nya in unlocking her elemental power of water. His Spinjitzu tornado is gold, and he usually wields a plain bamboo staff that once belonged to his father, though during his time as a cyborg it was black with red markings and possessed electrical properties. He later reveals that he is capable of manifesting an Elemental Dragon, its element being Creation.
- Lord/Master Garmadon (voiced by Mark Oliver) — He is the father of Lloyd, the husband of Misako, the brother of Master Wu and the oldest son of the First Spinjitzu Master. He is the Master of Destruction. He has been both a great adversary and, after being purified, an important member and teacher of the ninja team. In his and Wu's youth, an unfortunate encounter with the snake that became the monstrous Great Devourer led to Garmadon being infected with its evil venom, which affected his appearance and personality. It would not be until years later-after he married Misako and they had Lloyd-that the growing evil in his heart would lead him to try and take his father's Golden Weapons for himself. The resulting confrontation with Wu resulted in him being scarred and taking on a black, undead appearance and then being banished to the Underworld, where he overthrew Samukai and took control of the Skulkin. He then orchestrated a plan to escape by having the Skulkin kidnap Nya, Kai's sister, and seek out the Golden Weapons, which led Master Wu and the Ninja to seek them out as well. Eventually, Samukai obtained them all and announced his intent to betray Garmadon, but played right into Garmadon's hands-no being could possess all four weapons ordinarily, and Samukai's attempt to do so led to his destruction and the creation of a portal that allowed Garmadon to escape. Garmadon traveled to a dark dimension where he obtained the power to wield all four weapons at once, and an additional set of arms in the process. When Wu came in search of him, he attempted to destroy him but was then informed that Lloyd was in danger, which led him to briefly join forces with the Ninja. During this time, it became known that Lloyd was the Green Ninja of legend, meaning that father and son would have to face each other in battle. However, it would later be revealed that the prophecy of the Green Ninja facing the Dark Lord referred not to Garmadon, but the Overlord, an ancient enemy of Garmadon and Wu's father. The Overlord tricked Garmadon into upsetting the balance of Ninjago, allowing him to return and possess Garmadon's body. However, Lloyd managed to defeat the Overlord, which purified Garmadon of all his evil and returned him to normal human form. For a time he swore never to fight again, but later took up arms again to help fight the Digital Overlord and save Lloyd. During season four he was forced to confront his old teacher Master Chen, who persuaded him to lie to win Misako's affection and bestowed the title of lord upon him, and his former rival Clouse, a practitioner of dark magic. During the conflict he was changed-along with all of Chen's current and former disciples-into an Anacondrai, but later allowed himself to be banished to the Cursed Realm in order to halt Chen's evil, as it freed the Anacondrai Generals whom Garmadon himself had previously banished. Lloyd later found him inside the Preeminent, but was unable to free him, but with his father's encouragement he returned to battle with Garmadon's robes, leaving Garmadon to his fate. His Spinjitzu tornado was purple, but after Garmadon's purification, it took on a silver coloration. During his time as a villain he commanded dark magical powers, and wielded a variety of weapons, from ordinary counterparts to the four golden weapons to a set of four katana. As a Master, he wielded a bamboo staff, like his younger brother. He briefly held the Mega Weapon, the fused form of the Golden Weapons, which allowed him to make one wish that would create something for his purposes per day, though it greatly drained his strength. He, along with the other residents of the Cursed Realm, died as a result of its destruction.
- Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon/Green Ninja/Golden Ninja (voiced by Jillian Michaels) – Lloyd is the son of Misako and Garmadon, the nephew of Master Wu, the grandson of the First Spinjitzu Master and is the Green Ninja of Energy and (formerly) the legendary Golden Ninja. He is a master of both Spinjitzu and Airjitzu. Lloyd was left at Darkley's Boarding School by his mother due to his father taking the path of evil, with Misako setting out to find a way of preventing the prophesied final battle between father and son. A mischievous boy, Lloyd was kicked out of Darkley's and tried to follow in his father's footsteps, only to foolishly release the Serpentine from their tombs. He was eventually taken in by his uncle, and was captured by the Serpentine while trying to find out their plans. Upon being rescued by his father and the ninja, it was made known by Kai that he was the Green Ninja destined to face the Dark Lord in the final battle-leading everyone to believe that he was to fight his own father. This turned out to be false, however, and the Overlord was the "dark lord" he defeated. He loses most of his Golden Power in season three and splits the rest between the ninja. Like the other elemental masters, he can summon an Energy Dragon to transport himself, his being green (formerly gold). Lloyd has several other means of transport such as the Blade Cycle, his grandfather's golden mech, and the Jungle Raider.
- Kai Smith/Red Ninja[1] (voiced by Vincent Tong) – Kai is the Red Ninja of Fire, whose father was a friend of Master Wu and the previous Elemental Master of Fire. He is both a master of Spinjitzu and Airjitzu. Hot-headed and stubborn, he initially insulted Master Wu, but accepted his offer of training after his younger sister Nya was kidnapped by the Skulkins. He subsequently obtained the Sword of Fire and became the rider of the Fire Dragon Flame. Like the other ninja, Kai believed that he would become the Green Ninja, but his drive to do so kept him from discovering his full potential until after the other Ninja had already succeeded in doing so. Upon realizing that his training was meant to prepare him to protect the true Green Ninja, Lloyd, Kai unlocked his potential and joined the others in training Lloyd. Kai has wielded the Sword of Fire, the Fire elemental blade, the red Techno Blade and the Fire Aeroblade. Kai's ninja vehicles have included the Blade Cycle, the Fire Mech, the Fire Blade Fighter Jet, the X-1 Ninja Charger, and the Fire Drifter Hovercycle. His Spinjitzu tornado is red, and he is capable of manifesting a Fire Dragon created from his elemental powers. He developed feelings for Skylor, the master of Amber, in season four. Kai is shown to be very close to his sister, to the point where he will go out of his way to keep her safe.
- Jay "Walker" Gordon/Blue Ninja (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) – Jay is the Blue Ninja of Lightning and is also the most lighthearted of the group and Nya's boyfriend. He was the first to learn Spinjitzu, and is also a master of Airjitzu. An inventor, Jay was found by Master Wu testing a pair of artificial wings and recruited to join the Ninja; he subsequently obtained the Nunchucks of Lightning and became the rider of the Lightning Dragon Wisp. For some time he was afraid to admit his true feelings to Nya, but upon doing so unlocked his true potential. He, in season 3, became insanely jealous after learning that Nya might have feelings for Cole, though the two Ninja were later reconciled. Jay is somewhat embarrassed by his parents Ed and Edna, and avoided telling the other ninja about them for some time. A glimpse into his future revealed that he will eventually lose an eye, and will marry Nya. Jay has wielded the Nunchucks of Lightning, the elemental blade of lightning, the yellow Techno Blade, and the Lightning Aeroblade. Jay's ninja vehicles have included the Storm Glider Fighter Jet, the Thunder Raider Tank, the Electro Mech, and the Jay Walker One. The sixth season reveals he was adopted by Ed and Edna and his biological father being his the actor of his fictional idol, Fritz Donnegan: Cliff Gordon.
- Zane Julien[2]/White Ninja/Titanium Ninja (voiced by Brent Miller) – Zane is the Titanium Ninja of Ice, and the smartest of the group. He is master of both Spinjitzu and Airjitzu. Zane is a nindroid, an artificial being created to be a ninja by Dr. Julien. When his father fell ill, he turned off Zane's memory switch, leaving Zane with no memory of his father or being an artificial lifeform. Master Wu found him meditating at the bottom of a frozen lake and took him on as a student, leading to his obtaining the Shurikens of Ice and the Ice Dragon, whom he named Shard. The other Ninja found Zane hard to understand, as he often didn't comprehend their sense of humor or customs. However, they did appreciate his cooking ability, which curiously was an ability not programmed into him by his father. Once, Zane's peculiar character traits caused the ninja to grow infuriated with him. He left after they all scolded him for something that was not his fault. Despite his friends' cruel words, Zane was not offended, and they re-accepted him. Onwards Zane's relationship with the other ninja grew strong. After learning the truth about himself and regaining his memories, Zane unlocked his true potential. After fighting against the Overlord and his forces for some time, Zane sacrificed himself to defeat the Overlord's Golden Master incarnation. However, he managed to download himself into Cyrus Borg's computer network and build himself a new, more advanced body out of titanium. Zane has wielded the Shurikens of Ice, the elemental Blade of ice, the blue Techno Blade and Ice Aeroblade. Zane's ninja vehicles have included the Ice Claw Snowmobile, the Ninja Hovercopter, and the Ice Titan Mech.
- Cole Bucket[3]/Black Ninja/Ghost Cole (voiced by Kirby Morrow) – Cole is the Black Ninja of Earth. He is a master of both Spinjitzu and Airjitzu. Cole is the son of a famous dancer, but he resented his father's pushing him into the family legacy. Master Wu found him climbing one of the highest mountains in Ninjago, but upon signing on for Ninja training Cole told his family that he was attending a dancing school. He eventually became the owner of the Scythe of Quakes and the Earth Dragon, whom he named Rocky. Cole eventually earned his father's approval with his own style, and unlocked his true potential. In season 3, he competes with Jay over Nya, but stops his feud with the lightning ninja in season 4. In season 5, he becomes a ghost after he fails to escape Master Yang's haunted temple before sunrise. In the TV special "Day of the Departed", Cole begins to fade away to the "Departed Realm", to the point where his allies have even forgotten about him. He attempts to repay his debt to Yang only for the latter to trick him into bringing him his Yin Blade and reviving several past villains. After the villains are defeated, (save for Morro, who reforms) the ninja remember Cole and attempt to help him defeat Yang. After learning of Yang's fear of being forgotten, Cole shows him the error of his ways and attempts to take him with him into the Rift of Return, so they can become mortals again, but Yang instead throws Cole alone into the rift, so he can remain the Master of his temple and Cole returns to his human form, albeit with a green scar on his face. Cole has wielded the Scythe of Quakes, the green Techno Blade and the Earth Aeroblade. Cole's ninja vehicles have included the Tread Assault, the Earth Driller, the Earth Mech, the Boulder Blaster Roto-Jet, the Blaster Bike and the Rock Roader.
- Nya Smith[4]/Samurai X/Water Ninja (voiced by Kelly Metzger) – Nya is Kai's younger sister, whose kidnapping by Garmadon and the Skulkins leads Kai to become a Ninja. Her brother tends to be a bit overprotective of her, despite the fact that she can fend for herself. She originally fought under her alter ego "Samurai X," but, upon realizing she is the Elemental Master of Water, became a ninja. Jay develops a crush on her when they first meet, and throughout the first two seasons she reciprocates his feelings, and they later become official boyfriend and girlfriend. However, during the Digital Overlord/Golden Master arc, she starts questioning whether or not she may be more drawn to Cole because of a machine that claimed he was her perfect match, but at the end of Season 6, after Jay saves her life and all of Ninjago, the two end up back together. Nya has some skill in Spinjitzu; while briefly under the influence of dark matter, her technique produced a dark red tornado. She has the greatest assortment of weaponry of all the ninja, including various gadgets, a large battlesuit, a weighted chain, and a sharpened fan. In battle she often pilots her Samurai X mech, and in season 4, created and drove the Ninjago DB Express RV. She unlocked her true potential in order to defeat the Preeminent. She learns Airjitzu in season 6.
Allies
- Misako Garmadon (voiced by Kathleen Barr) – Lloyd's mother and Garmadon's wife. She knew Wu and Garmadon in their youth, and enjoyed a close bond with both brothers – after Garmadon turned evil, she once remarked that she should have chosen to marry Wu. Misako somehow recognized that her son was the Green Ninja of Legend, and left him at a boarding school in order to pursue a means of preventing the prophesied battle between her husband and son from coming to pass. She eventually returned to Ninjago after the defeat of the Great Devourer, having learned of the evil Overlord and his Stone Army. Lloyd was initially unhappy to see her, having felt abandoned, but reconciled with her after learning her true motivation for leaving him at the school. She and Wu renewed their friendship, and for a time it seemed that they might become a couple. However, Misako never ceased to love Garmadon, and was overjoyed when he was purified of the evil that had poisoned him for so long. She remained at their monastery during the events of the third season, but played a bigger role in season four, where Garmadon's past came back to haunt them. During the conflict with Master Chen and his Anacondrai Cult, it was revealed that Garmadon had signed his name to a letter he had given Misako years ago that contributed to her falling in love with him; the actual writer turned out to be Wu. However, Misako forgave her husband, and later watched as he allowed himself to be sent to the Cursed Realm to stop the false Anacondrai.
- Grand Sensei Dareth/Brown Ninja (voiced by Alan Marriott) – A vain man identifying himself as "Grand Sensei", though he is nothing of the kind. He is the keeper of "Mojo Dojo" (a small training building in Ninjago) and wishes to become "the Brown Ninja". By his own confession, he is hopeless at the martial arts where even all of his trophies are fake. He later tries to defend the city from the Stone Army, but he is no match for them. In the end however, he plays a pivotal role in the Ninja's victory, using the Helmet of Shadows to take control of the Stone Army and using them against the Overlord. During the third season he takes charge of the students of Master Wu's academy while their teachers-Wu, Nya, and the ninja-are fighting the Digital Overlord. He returns in season four, with Nya reluctantly taking him along on her journey to Master Chen's island, where he provides some assistance to her due to his abilities as a "Master of Disguise expert." Unfortunately, he manages to get himself caught by Chen's forces, but is later freed and joins the Ninja in their efforts against the reborn Anacondrai tribe.
- P.I.X.A.L. (voiced by Jennifer Hayward) – Short for Primary Interactive X-ternal Assistant Lifeform, P.I.X.A.L. droid of Borg Industries who Zane falls in love with in Season Three. After Ninjago's power is briefly shut down, she is powered by half of Zane's power source, and begins to reciprocate his feelings for her. For a time the two had Zane's fighting ability split between them, but Zane's destruction and subsequent rebuilding into the Titanium Ninja put an end to this. By unknown means, P.I.X.A.L. and Zane both fell into the hands of Master Chen and his Anacondrai Cult, and P.I.X.A.L.'s body was scrapped for unknown reasons. However, her processor survived and was installed in a computer, allowing her to communicate with the captive Zane, who later installed it in himself to allow P.I.X.A.L. to be his constant guide and companion.
- Dr. Cyrus Borg/OverBorg (voiced by Lee Tockar) – A disabled man who recreated Ninjago City, making it technologically advanced. He is the owner of Borg Industries, and is controlled by the Overlord via cyborg implants (becoming OverBorg) on and off in season 3. However, his true loyalties are to the Ninja, and he strives to make up for his error, constantly helping the citizens of Ninjago. After aiding the Ninja in their efforts to stop the Overlord, Borg remained close with them, helping Wu and Misako to train Lloyd for future challenges. He would later return just prior to their final confrontation with the Ghost Warriors to provide most of them with new weapons and vehicles. Borg uses a wheelchair, though he briefly employed a vehicle with six robotic legs that was taken control of by the Overlord.
- Skylor Chen/Orange Ninja[5] (voiced by Heather Doerksen) – Skylor was one of the sixteen competitors in Master Chen's Tournament of Elements as the Elemental Master of Amber, with the power to absorb and use the Elemental Power of any other competitor. She is Master Chen's daughter, and initially sides with her father in his bid to claim all the Elemental Powers and transform himself and his followers into Anacondrai. However, she later recognizes her father's evil ways with help from Kai (with whom she falls in love) and turns against him, but later has her own powers used to cast the spell. Despite being turned into an Anacondrai herself, she fights against her father during the renewed Serpentine War, and is later returned to normal and takes over the family noodle restaurant chain after her father is defeated. This would lead to her meeting Ronin just prior to the Ghost Warriors' takeover of Stiix. Skylor inherited her powers from her mother, and is the only Elemental Master involved in the tournament not to have manifested an Elemental Dragon.
- Ronin (voiced by Brian Dobson) - A mercenary and thief who initially appeared in Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin. In the game he is revealed to have captured Zane for Master Chen, and later attempted to free Chen from the Cursed Realm. Using a magical weapon known as the Obsidian Glaive, he erased and altered the memories of the Ninja and several of their allies and enemies in his efforts, but his plan was defeated and the glaive destroyed. In the fifth season he would return as an unlikely ally in the battle with Morro and his Ghost Army, though he would be pursued by both Morro and the Ninja after stealing the Scroll of Airjitzu. It was revealed that Ronin has incurred a great deal of debt throughout his life, most notably to Bow Master Soul Archer, and his criminal ventures and dirty deals are in an effort to get enough money to pay him back. Despite this self-serving attitude, he does have a heart, and was willing to face Morro's warriors to save Nya. He also helps Nya start to unlock her elemental powers by helping her see that her overwhelming desire to command water is actually holding her back. Unfortunately, he then steals the Sword of Sanctuary in an effort to pay his debt to the Soul Archer, but refuses to help the Ghosts destroy the Ninja. Morro then possessed him in order to send the Ninja into a trap, but Ronin managed to send them help and the true coordinates of the First Spinjitzu Master's tomb. Ronin is a brown-haired man with some facial hair who appears to be missing his right eye, which has a mechanical lens in its place. He is proficient in the use of swords and guns, and in the game wore a suit of armor. He also pilots an aircraft known as the R.E.X., which he summons by whistling a distinctive tune.
- Falcon - A robotic bird created by Zane's father, Dr. Julien, which appeared to Zane during the conflict between the Ninja and the Serpentine. It eventually led Zane to the workshop where he was created, allowing him to discover his identity and unlock his true potential. The Falcon thereafter joined the Ninja as a scout and messenger; in season 4 it was modified without explanation so that its entire body was metallic, rather than resembling a real falcon.
- Echo Zane (voiced by Brent Miller) - Another version of Zane who is found by Jay and Nya in season 6. Echo Zane helps the two fight the sky pirates who attack Dr Julien's tower, and later helps Jay save the ninja.
- Tai-D - A tea robot created by Dr. Julien.
- Nelson (voice by David Reynolds) - Lil' Nelson is the honorary Purple Ninja of the Ninja Team. He broke both of his legs in an accident. Dareth arranged for the Ninja to visit Lil' Nelson and make him an honorary ninja for a day. The Ninja stopped by on their way to stop Clouse, remembering their lesson to "not put off what can be done today." However, due to Kai's addiction to his fans, he alerted them about their location and ended up being surrounded. A fellow fan himself, Lil' Nelson dons a hand-made gi, becomes the Purple Ninja, and helps the Ninja by blocking the fans so they can escape to the roof. Lloyd expresses his gratefulness in his assistance, but Lil' Nelson says that he is grateful his one wish was granted, thanks to Lloyd and his friends.
Supporting characters
- Ed and Edna Walker (voiced by Colin Murdock and Jillian Michaels) – Jay's adoptive father and mother. Both are inventors and live at a junkyard. At first, Jay was resisting being around them due to them repeatedly embarrassing him, until the Fangpyre attack, forcing Jay to come to their aid. The whole matter drew them ever closer to each other, and they also helped to complete the flight mode of the Destiny's Bounty, the flying base of the Ninja.
- Dr. Julien/Tinkerer (voiced by Mark Oliver) – An inventor who created Zane, which makes him, to all intents and purposes, Zane's father. After he wiped Zane's memory (so the poor boy would not have the pain of losing him) and died, he was revived by Samukai through a special elixir and forced to create their advanced machines. Imprisoned on an island and guarded by a Leviathan, he was only freed when the Ninja drifted and ran aground. Zane had regained his memories by this point, and Julien helped repair their ship and escaped with them. He is seen in "Tick Tock" as a flashback and in person in "The Last Voyage". In his first appearance in "Tick Tock", he was credited as "Zane's father"; though in the credits to The Last Voyage, they listed him by the title of The Tinkerer. Julien provided support to the ninja during their final battles with the Overlord and his stone army, creating new vehicles for them and even flying the Bounty solo to save Lloyd from the Overlord. The first episode of season three reveals that he has once again died, as Cyrus Borg offers Zane his condolences.
- Lou Bucket (voiced by Kirby Morrow) – Cole's father and a member of the former singing group called the Royal Blacksmiths. Cole ran away from the family legacy of dance. Cole's reunion with his father and settling family problems awarded the ninja of earth with his true potential. He and his fellow quartet members made subsequent other appearances, often singing together in the most unusual circumstances, such as during a race or while bidding Cole farewell as he departed for the Dark Island.
- The First Spinjitzu Master – An ancient peacekeeping figure who created the world of Ninjago in ancient times using the Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, only to be faced by the evil of the Overlord. The two fought to a standstill, at which point the Overlord created and animated an army of Stone Warriors made of an indestructible material. Unable to overcome this force, the Spinjitzu Master used his power to break Ninjago into two continents, with one becoming the fabled Dark Island. He charged his sons, Wu and Garmadon, with guarding the Golden Weapons, and hid his Golden Mech in the Temple of Light on the Dark Island in preparation for the Golden Ninja who would face the Overlord upon his return, who turned out to be his grandson, Lloyd Garmadon. Lloyd is also the direct heir to the First Master's mystical powers, including the Golden Dragon fighting technique. Prior to passing, the Master informed Wu that he would leave his son a message with regards to the location of his tomb, and inscribed cryptic symbols on his bamboo staff to do so. However, Wu would not learn of this until later, while Wu's errant pupil Morro somehow learned of this. Stealing the staff from Wu, Morro set out to find the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master, with the dire warning that he would be able to unleash terrible power were he to access it. This terrible power stems from the Realm Crystal, a magical jewel created by the Master that allows its user to freely travel between the sixteen realms in which Ninjago is included. It is also the only means by which the Preeminent is capable of leaving the Cursed Realm and spreading her dark reign.
- Nobu (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) - A monk from Cloud Kingdom charged with writing destiny in Ninjago. When the Master Writer, Fenwick, betrayed the Ninja and sided with Morro, Nobu came to their aid and warned them of his intentions. He also wrote on Fenwick's destiny scroll so that Fenwick was pursued by the creature Nimbus, preventing him from posing a further threat to the Ninja. He later witnessed Lloyd and Morro passing through the Cloud Kingdom during their interdimensional running battle, but was informed by a senior monk that they could not interfere.
- Mystake (voiced by Mackenzie Gray) - A tea shop owner who sells magical tea that can open inter-realm portal (Traveler's Tea) or artificially age drinkers (Tomorrow's Tea).
Elemental Masters
The Elemental Masters are people who descended from the First Spinjitzu Master's personal guardians. The generation prior to the current one fought in the Serpentine War. They, like the Ninja, possess elemental powers, allowing them to manifest Elemental Dragons for transport or battle.
- Karlof[6] (voiced by Scott McNeil) – The Elemental Master of Metal, who wears large gauntlets and can turn his entire body into metal. He is the first one eliminated from the Tournament, and the first to lose his elemental power. He and Cole worked together to make the Boulder Blaster to escape the Noodle Factory and help the remaining Elemental Masters.
- Griffin Turner (voiced by Doron Bell Jr.) – The Elemental Master of Speed.
- Ash (voiced by Brent Miller) – The Elemental Master of Smoke. He is the fourth one eliminated from the Tournament, and the fourth to lose his elemental power.
- Bolobo (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) – The Elemental Master of Nature, who wields a staff that he typically uses to grow plant life for attack. He is the second one eliminated from the Tournament, and the second to lose his elemental power.* Gravis (voiced by Kirby Morrow in episode 37, Mark Oliver in episode 44) – The Elemental Master of Gravity. He is the third one eliminated from the Tournament, and the third to lose his elemental power.
- Neuro (voiced by Paul Dobson) – The Elemental Master of Mind who discovers that Chen plans to use a spell, and tells the ninja, becoming an important helper in the battle against the Anacondrai.
- Tox (voiced by Ian James Corlett) – She is the Elemental Master of Poison. She is the seventh one eliminated from the Tournament, and the eighth to lose her elemental power.
- Paleman/Mr. Pale (voiced by Kirby Morrow) – He is the Elemental Master of Light, which allows him to make all or part of his body transparent.
- Jacob Pevsner (voiced by Paul Dobson) – The Elemental Master of Sound. He is the fifth one eliminated from the Tournament (after Cole), and the sixth to lose his elemental power. After being defeated by Skylor and sent to work at Chen's noodle factory, Jacob attempted to escape but was caught by Clouse, who then seemingly ordered Jacob to be fed to Clouse's serpent. It would be later revealed that Jacob was in fact being forced to feed the serpent food, not being food himself. As such, he was later seen in episode 43, aiding the ninja in the final battle against Chen.
- Chamille/Camille (voiced by Maryke Hendrikse) – The Elemental Master of Form, which allows her to change her appearance at will. She is the sixth one eliminated from the Tournament, and the seventh to lose her Elemental power.
- Shadow/Shade (voiced by Andrew Francis) – The Elemental Master of Shadow, who can disappear into darkness. He was suspected of being a spy for Master Chen, when in reality it was Skylor. He would later aid the ninja during the Second Serpentine War.
- Ray Smith/Previous Master of Fire (voiced by Vincent Tong) - Ray is credited as the previous master of fire who helped fight the Anacondrai in the first Serpentine War with the elemental masters of the era.[7]
- Maya Smith/Previous Master of Water - Maya was the master of water during the era of the Serpentine War, whom had fought in the war along side the elemental masters of the time.
Villains
- The Overlord/Digital Overlord/The Golden Master (voiced by Scott McNeil) – The true Dark Lord in the Green Ninja prophecy and the Golden Master. He battled the First Spinjitzu Master in the ancient war before being banished to the evil half of Ninjago, called the Dark Island, trapped there for a long time until Lord Garmadon washed up on the island's shores and broke the seal. The Overlord "guided" Garmadon in his efforts to conquer Ninjago and corrupt it into his own image; in reality he sought to upset the balance of the world enough to allow him to return. Upon succeeding, he possessed Garmadon, whose body mutated until it took on a dragon-like form after the Overlord's Stone Army conquered Ninjago City. However, he was defeated by Lloyd using the Golden Power, which purified Garmadon of his spirit and seemingly destroyed him. In Season Three it has been revealed that he had survived the battle and became a computer virus in Borg Tower and took over New Ninjago City, building an army of Nindroids. He planned to take Lloyd's golden power to escape the digiverse and become The Golden Master just like in the Serpentine prophecy in "The Curse of the Golden Master". When he gained 90 percent of Lloyd's power, he became a purple blob creature and planned to take the Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, which had survived "Wrong Place, Wrong Time", landing on a comet, to complete the transformation. In "The Titanium Ninja", he finally became the Golden Master, then he was destroyed by Zane in a big explosion which marked the end of the Overlord and most of the Nindroid army. The Overlord was the main antagonist of half of Season 2 and Season 3.
- The Great Devourer – A giant snake worshiped as a god by the Serpentine, known to be very dangerous and deadly with the ability to increase its size by consuming anything in its path, including its own kind. The Great Devourer is the main cause of the events in the series as it was responsible for turning Garmadon evil through its venom, and it was the creature Pythor intended to release to exact revenge on the people of Ninjago. But the Great Devourer proved to be beyond anyone's control, swallowing Pythor and Sensei Wu alive, the former suffering side effects from exposure to the serpent's stomach acid, and running rampant on Ninjago with the Ninja unable to subdue it. However, in the end, the Ninja manage to lure the Devourer into a trap during its siege of Ninjago City, allowing Lord Garmadon to destroy the Great Devourer with the power of the Golden Weapons in revenge for the grief and madness it caused to him. Despite its death, the monster's venom still seeps into Ninjago City's sewage system, eventually reawakening the Stone Army. However, the Stone Army was eventually destroyed, and upon the Overlord Dragon's defeat Garmadon was cleansed of the Devourer's venom and its effects. He is the antagonist final of Season 1.
- The Preeminent/Cursed Realm - The Queen of the Cursed, the Preeminent is an eldritch horror who is the embodiment of the Cursed Realm, she is stuck in an alternate dimension and the master of Morro and the Ghost Warriors, whose ultimate goal is to retrieve the Realm Crystal from the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master and assure in her arrival to curse all 16 Realms, including Ninjago. She resembles a massive eyeball with tentacles, but her iris and pupil are actually reminiscent of a mouth that produces her ghostly minions. Though her minions allowed her to cross into Ninjago, she was defeated when the Ninja and their allies dropped her into an ocean trench. She is the major antagonist of Season 5.
The Skulkin
The Skulkin are a breed of living skeletons who were once ruled by Samukai. After becoming their leader, Garmadon sent the Skulkins to Ninjago to find the Four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, to which they do so. The Skeleton army is defeated by the Ninja, though Samukai tries to use the Weapons himself. The power of the weapons destroys him, allowing Garmadon to escape his imprisonment and leaving the Skeletons leaderless. However, Garmadon rebands the Skeletons and leads them to rescue the Ninja and help them steal the Fang Blades from the Serpentines, as part of the temporary alliance Garmadon made with the ninja to stop the Serpentines's leader Pythor from unleashing the Great Devourer, the very same giant snake who turned Garmadon evil. The Skeletons are willing to help along with this because, as Kruncha comments 'Everybody hates snakes'.
- Samukai (voiced by Michael Kopsa) – The four-armed Skeleton Fire General and former leader of the Skulkin. Once a creature of the living world banished to the Underworld by the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master, he was the King of the Underworld until he was defeated by Lord Garmadon when he was banished to the Underworld, causing him to step down and allow Garmadon to become the new King and control the legions of the Underworld. Samukai led the Skeleton Army in the Surface World of Ninjago, carrying out Garmadon's orders and seeking the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Soon, Samukai possessed the four weapons and betrayed Garmadon, only to be vaporized by the power of the weapons combined. In "Day of the Departed", Samukai is among the villains Cole unintentionally revives. Due to the other villains already choosing their targets, Samukai is left with Jay to kill. Samukai arrives at Ed and Edna's junkyard and holds them hostage in order to gain the upper hand in killing Jay. However, Ronin arrives in a self-designed mech and assists Jay in defeating Samukai and sending him back to the Departed Realm. Samukai is the first character in Ninjago to have four arms as well as the first to hold all four Golden Weapons, the second being Lord Garmadon. He is also one of the few characters in the series to have died, and one of the few who have been defeated permanently.
- Kruncha and Nuckal (both voiced by Brian Drummond) – Skeleton Generals of Earth and Lightning respectively, who serve Samukai. They led the raid on Kai and Nya's shop, helped (and hindered through their clumsiness) Samukai and Lord Garmadon in their quests for the weapons and led the army against the Ninja. They were two of the few skeletons stranded in Ninjago during the Serpentine Crisis in the first season, teaching at the Darkley's School for Bad Boys, though they later quit. They lead the Skeleton Army into battle with Garmadon against the Serpentine to rescue the Ninja, and are also seen celebrating after the destruction of the Great Devourer. In the second season, they are seen participating in the Ninjaball Run Race in the Skeleton Truck. They drag Lloyd on the Ultra Dragon down, but crash their own vehicle in the process. They also appeared in "The Invitation", where Kruncha fights Kai in the Slither Pit, and later as inmates of Kryptarium Prison. Kruncha is presumed to be the new King of the Underworld following Samukai's demise and Garmadon's disappearance.
- Wyplash (voiced by Michael Dobson and later by Michael Adamthwaite) – Skeleton General of Ice.
- Frakjaw – Skeleton of Fire. He and Krazi served Samukai in attempting to kill Jay.
- Krazi (voiced by Trevor Devall) – Skeleton of Lightning. He is the most violent Skulkin. He and Frakjaw served Samukai in attempting to kill Jay.
- Chopov (voiced by Trevor Devall) – Skeleton of Earth. He is said to be the creator of the skulkin vehicles, but Dr. Julien was the one who was forced to build them. Dr. Julien refused, so the Skulkin trapped him with a chained Leviathan.
- Bonezai – Skeleton of Ice.
The Serpentine
The Serpentine are a breed of vicious snakes. Originally a race created by the First Spinjitzu Master, they held a prophecy that foretold the coming of the Golden Master. Their attempts to warn the humans resulted in a war that culminated with them being driven underground, partly because both sides were manipulated by Master Chen. Released by Lloyd Garmadon, the Serpentine attempted to conquer Ninjago several times under the leadership of Pythor, Lord Garmadon, and finally Skales. However, after losing in battle to the Overlord's Stone Army, the Serpentine made a home for themselves underground and later aid the people of New Ninjago City escape the Golden Master's attack and then against Master Chen's army of new Anacondrai.
- The Anacondrai – An honor-bound anaconda-type Serpentine tribe that is the most feared of the Serpentine, able to turn themselves invisible. They are known for their purple coloration, and unlike other Serpentine tribes they all-not just their generals-have snake tails in place of legs. While their leading members were exiled to the Cursed Realm, the rest of the Anacondrai were trapped underground and apparently resorted to cannibalism until only Pythor remained. However, Master Chen and his group of cultists sought to bring them back, using dark magic to become Anacondrai themselves.
- Pythor P. Chumsworth (voiced by Michael Dobson) – The general and last remaining member of the Anacondrai, unique among his kind due to his elongated neck and habit of swallowing people larger than himself. Unlike his kind, Pythor is cowardly and dishonest yet has an arrogant sense of pride. While his tribe were sealed away, the Anacondrai Tribe had no food source and ultimately fell to starvation and cannibalism with Pythor becoming the sole survivor. Upon being released, Pythor pretended to be Lloyd's ally to steal the map to the Serpentine tombs to release the Constrictai and the Venomari Tribes. Soon after finding the lost city of Ouroborus, through deceit and an alliance with Skales, Pythor becomes the first Snake King of all Serpentine. It becomes clear soon that Pythor had been driven insane by his imprisonment and his hatred of the surface dwellers, using the allegiance of the tribes to unleash the Great Devourer to exact revenge on people of Ninjago for locking up the Serpentine underground. As the series progressed, Pythor finally managed to collect all four Silver Fang Blades, despite the oppression from the Ninja, Lord Garmadon, and the Skeleton Army, realizing too late that the Great Devourer would consume everything in its path, including himself alongside Master Wu. In season 3, Pythor is revealed to have survived his ordeal within the Great Devourer's stomach with his scales bleached white as he went into hiding. Still bent on revenge against the humans, Pythor aids the Overlord by converting Master Wu into Tech Wu and then tricking the ninja into giving him a beacon leading him to Lloyd. This season also revealed a fascination with a breed of electric eel/water snake known as electrocobrai, which he used as a power source for the Overlord and his creations. He swallows the shrinking pill that was meant for the Overlord in "The Titanium Ninja" and is chased by the Falcon. In season four he is among the many inmates of Crypterium Prison-living in a dollhouse inside of a cell-and reveals to the ninja that the Anacondrai were tricked into attacking the humans during the war. He is captured by Chen and his sweat is used to make the new Anacondrai permanent, but he manages to discover a means of defeating them by releasing the spirits of the Anacondrai generals. In gratitude for finally making them proud, Arcturus restores Pythor to his original size, though not his former coloration. In "Day of the Departed" Pythor allies with the revived villains. He attempts to kill Lloyd, but is defeated. Outmatched, he jumps off the stone carving he stood on, but survives the fall, although incapacitated. He appears to be fond of the name "Rodrigo", as he applied this name to a toy basketball he owned while in prison and a rat that he tamed and rode into the final battle with the Anacondrai Cult. Pythor is the main antagonist of Season 1, antagonist secondary of Season 3, co-protagonist of Season 4, one of the main antagonists of Day of Departed.
- Arcturus (voiced by Scott McNeil) – An Anacondrai general from the first Serpentine war who fought against the Serpentine War Era Elemental Masters under Wu and Garmadon. Upon the defeat of the Serpentine, he and the other Anacondrai generals were exiled to the Cursed Realm, where they became disembodied spirits, though Arcturus' prominence led to a constellation being named after him. His name was also given to the Overlord's efforts to reach the Golden Weapons in space in order to become the Golden Master. It was later revealed that Arcturus had been tricked into thinking that the humans would attack the Serpentine. Sensei Garmadon later allowed himself to be sent to the Cursed Realm to free Arcturus and the others, who then cursed Chen's new army of Anacondrai for tarnishing their good time dishonorably. Arcturus and the other generals then thank Lloyd for restoring the balance before departing to rest in peace.
- The Hypnobrai – A cobra-type Serpentine tribe that specializes in mind-control. They were locked in a frozen tomb in a tundra. All of them have red eyes they use to hypnotize victims (which explains that their name is a pun on "Hypnotize"). The symbol of the staff and the Hypnobrai has a hypnotizing shape like a swirl. Their color is blue. Among its members are:
- Skales (voiced by Ian James Corlett) – The current general of the Hypnobrai tribe, usurping Slithraa though his mastery of 'Fang-Quan-Do'. In the first season he is Pythor's second in command in return of faking his defeat by the Anacondrai general. After the Devourer's defeat, in the second season, Skales attempts to claim leadership even when he stated that he warned them that waking the Great Devourer wasn't a good idea. Lord Garmadon arrives to challenge Skales and wins the Serpentine over with the recreated Destiny's Bounty as their new home. Eventually fed-up with Garmadon's repeated failures, he and the others usurp Garmadon and he claims leadership, leaving Garmadon to be stranded on the Dark Island. As the Snake King, his first order was to dig under Ninjago City and imprison the citizens underground just as they did to the Serpentine. While doing so, Skales discovers the Stone Army tomb and opens it, but the Devourer's venom seeps into the Stone Warriors and they easily overpower the Serpentine, leaving them imprisoned once again, much to Skales' distress. However, the Serpentine survived, reshaping the former army's cavern into their new home. In the process, Skales married Selma, a pink female Hypnobrai, and the two had a son whom they named Skales Jr. They subsequently vowed to never return to the surface, though they shared the prophecy of the Golden Master and Pythor's fascination with electrocobrai with the Ninja. Skales later helped evacuate the people of New Ninjago City during the Overlord's attack, and he and other Serpentine battled the false Anacondrai alongside the people of Ninjago.
- Selma (voiced by Jillian Michaels) – Selma is a pink Hypnobrai who resembles Mezmo and the wife of general Skales. During the time of imprisonment, Skales and Selma had a son named Skales Jr. Selma is known to be protective of her son and to wear a small necklace.
- Skales Jr. (voiced by Alyssya Swales) – The son of Skales and Selma. He is a legged Serpentine that resembles Rattla, who wears blue human clothes. As part of the newest generation of Serpentine, he seems to lack the malevolence previously exhibited by his father. Like the other young Serpentine, he was raised to fear the coming of the "Golden Master", a being with the power of the First Spinjitzu Master who would subjugate the world.
- Slithraa (voiced by John Novak in most appearances, Ian James Corlett in The Titanium Ninja) – The previous general of the Hypnobrai, he accidentally hypnotized himself after he attacked Lloyd when the boy fell into their tomb. Eventually, he is defeated by Skales and is forced to hand over their tribe's leadership to him. His latest appearance is in "The Titanium Ninja" when he helps put people in the sewers.
- Mezmo (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) – He is a soldier of the Hypnobrai tribe. He is mostly seen eating rather than fighting, like eating cotton candy while the others chase Samurai X's Mech which stole the Hypnobrai Fangblade. The designs on him are like Slithraa's except white, with his head flaps a bit shorter. His hands and arms are gray. He is also the judge of the Slither Pit, where he has absolute authority, even over his superiors.
- Rattla (voiced by Paul Dobson) – He is the scout of the Hypnobrai tribe. He has a normal dark blue minifigure head with a gray piece with markings on top that he shares with Snappa. He is seen in most of the season one and season two episodes, with two appearances in season three.
- The Fangpyre – A pit viper-type Serpentine tribe who specializes in venomous bites that transforms the victim into a Serpentine (depending on their element) with snake-like traits. Strangely if a Fangpyre bites a vehicle, it transforms instantly. However, if they bite a person, it takes an extended period of time for them to transform (possibly because the person's immune system fights the transformation). Their anti-venom, as with the other Serpentine Tribes, is located inside the staff of their tribe. If a Fangpyre bites another Fangpyre, the Fangpyre grows another head, resulting in the slightly comedic quirk that each head speaks halves or thirds of a sentence if it is long enough. The sign of the staff and the Fangpyre are fangs with a snake tongue sticking out. Among its members are:
- Fangtom (voiced by Mackenzie Gray) – The two-headed General of the Fangpyre tribe and an old friend of Skales, his condition the result of accidentally biting himself. When Lord Garmadon buys the Serpentines' loyalty, Fangtom loses his standing with the Fangpyre, though he eventually regained his place with them after Skales became their leader.
- Fangdam – The two-headed warrior of the Fangpyre tribe. Aside from the fact he lacks a tail, he and Fangtom, who has been identified as his brother, are identical.
- Fang-Suei – He is a soldier for the Fangprye tribe and was responsible for Fangdam's two-headed appearance. He has Fangdam's design but he's white colored instead of red. He wears a necklace with five fangs on it and has red arms and white hands.
- Snappa – He is the scout of the Fangpyre tribe. He has a red head with black make-up on. He has a white hood piece that he shares with Rattla. He has the same designs as Fang-Suei. He wears a necklace with two fangs on it. Snappa's arms and hands are white.
- The Constrictai – A boa constrictor-type Serpentine tribe who specializes in constricting anyone and burrowing underground at a fast speed. They're also the shortest and the dumbest of all Serpentine tribes, but they are second strongest after the Anacondrai. The sign of the staff and the Constrictai is orange and has three rings connectings to each other representing constricting. The anti-venom in the staff awakens those knocked out when being choked. They were sealed within the Mountain of a Million Steps until released by Pythor. Among its members are:
- Skalidor (voiced by Michael Dobson) – The General of the Constrictai tribe, using his tail to constrict his victims instead of his hands. He has silver spikes on his head and yellow eyes. Skalidor is the shortest general and a dim-witted brute. When Lord Garmadon buys the Serpentines' loyalty, Skalidor loses his standing with the Constrictai, though he later regains it and is the first to support Skales as the Serpentine King. He has an orange rock-like design on his body and a silver stone tied to the right of his chest. Most of his body is black and he has gray arms and black hands.
- Bytar (voiced by Kirby Morrow) – He is the strong (second to Skalidor) Constrictai warrior, seen with others doing Pythor's dirty jobs such as digging, and harming the ninjas. He has the same design as Skalidor but doesn't have a silver stone on his chest. He has orange spikes on his head and his left eye is shut all the time. His right eye is yellow. He has gray arms and black hands.
- Chokun (voiced by Vincent Tong) – He is the soldier of the Constrictai Tribe. He has the same head form as Fang-Suei. His head his gray and the top of it is silver. Most of his body is orange. He has two gray, cracked stones on his body with white line-like designs surrounding the stones. He has gray arms and blacks hands.
- Snike (voiced by Brent Miller) – He is the scout of the Constrictai tribe. He has a gray head and the top of it is orange with a gray design. He has two black, cracked stones with a smaller one under it. There is also a white line-like design reaching only halfway across the body. He has orange arms with black hands.
- The Venomari – A spitting cobra-type Serpentine tribe with odd tusks and multiple eyes who specializes in spitting a hallucination-inducing venom. They were sealed in a tomb within poisonous swamps until Pythor released them. The symbol of the staff and the venomari is green with drops of venom coming out of the symbol. Among its members are:
- Acidicus (voiced by Paul Dobson) – He is the General of the Venomari tribe, creator of the venom vials his tribe carries in case they run dry during combat. He has six white spikes on his head and two more on the sides of his mouth. It's known that Skalidor and Acidicus' relationship resembles Kruncha and Nuckal's. Most of his body is green. Acidicus has green arms with black hands. He has a wide, light green PAC-MAN design with small red triangles on each side. When Lord Garmadon buys the Serpentines' loyalty, Acidicus loses his standing with the Venomari. Later on during season 3, he tells the ninja about the Curse of the Golden Master.
- Lizaru (voiced by Vincent Tong) – Lizaru is the warrior of the Venomari tribe. He has the same kind of head as Acidicus but the six spikes on his head are green. Most of his body is light green. He has two black scars on his body. Lizaru has two vine-like designs and two red spots on the sides of his body. He has green arms and black hands.
- Spitta (voiced by Kirby Morrow) – He is the soldier of the Venomari Tribe. Spitta has no spikes on his head or on the sides of his mouth either. He has two black scars on his body and, like Lizaru, he has two vine-like designs that hold red bottles of venom. He has green arms and black hands. Spitta's fangs are so large and produce so much venom that it leaks.
- Lasha - A Venomari soldier.
The Stone Army
The Stone Army was an army of living samurai statues created by the Overlord during the Stone Wars to fight against the First Spinjitzu Master. After the war, they were trapped underground in a tomb which the Serpentine later discovered. However, the Great Devourer's destruction spread its venom across Ninjago, and the Stone Army were awakened and soon fell under the control of their old master. They fought against the Ninja on several occasions, but were eventually turned against the Overlord when his Helmet of Darkness fell into the possession of Dareth. Following the Overlord's defeat, the army vanished, along with their considerable arsenal.
- General Kozu (voiced by Paul Dobson) – Leader of the Stone Army, he has four arms, and served as the direct subordinate to both Garmadon and the Overlord. Unlike the rest of the army, he could apparently speak both their ancient tongue and English, and was colored differently than his troops. After being accidentally launched into Ninjago, he reassumed command of the Stone Army under the Overlord in dragon form, but later switched allegiances to Dareth after he donned the Helmet of Darkness. He was soon destroyed after the Overlord's defeat, but he returns in "Day of the Departed" as one of the villains who Cole unintentionally revives. After the other revived villains go after the ninjas, he chooses to kill Dareth only for Dareth to once again don the Helmet of Darkness and turn his troops against him. He then returns to the Departed Realm after his defeat.
- Stone Warrior (voiced by Scott McNeil) – Strongest of the Stone Army.
- Stone Swordsman – Normal soldiers in the Stone Army.
- Stone Scout – Weakest in the Stone Army.
- Giant Stone Warrior – A massive version of the normal Stone Warriors discovered by Misako and awakened by the Great Devourer's venom. The ninja found themselves unable to defeat him through conventional means, or even through Lloyd's powers. His defeat came through tricking him into standing on a disguised bottomless pit. Despite this, he later returned as an inmate of Kryptarium prison, and one of many who sought vengeance against the Ninja.
The Nindroid Army
The Nindroids were created by the Overlord (controlling P.I.X.A.L.) as his new army following the Stone Army's defeat. They share many attributes with the Ninja, but cannot perform Spinjitzu. They were led by General Cryptor, though they answered to Pythor after he formed an alliance with the Overlord. After many engagements with the Ninja, they were destroyed along with the Overlord, though some were imprisoned. Cyrus Borg also employed Nindroids as security units, though it is unknown whether he reprogrammed existing Nindroids or created new ones using the same designs. All the Nindroids were capable of cloaking themselves, flying using jets in their feet and collapsible wings built into their backs, and could wield either katana, sai, or laser guns in addition to their built in weapons. They also utilized a number of vehicles, most formidably the Destructoid tank vehicle equipped with a number of different weapons, the robotic Mecha Dragon with dangerous saw-blades and a built-in laboratory, and the spaceship Arcturus that they used to obtain the Golden Weapons for the Overlord..
- General Cryptor (voiced by Richard Newman) – Leader of the Nindroids. He, unlike other Nindroids, loves insulting his opponents in battle, habitually mocking Nya for being a girl and Min-Droid for his short height. He was the Digital Overlord's second in command until Pythor came along, and made sure that the Anacondrai knew where the Nindroids' true loyalties lay. Cryptor engaged the Ninja multiple times but was defeated, and during his last fight with Nya was goaded into insulting Min-Droid, who proceeded to attack his commander-both later perished when the Overlord was destroyed. In "Day of the Departed", Cryptor is among the villains Cole unintentionally revives. Cryptor chooses to go after Zane. Cryptor is able to anticipate Zane's every move, but Zane decides to stop fighting, resulting in Cryptor falling onto his own weapon and being sent back to the Departed Realm. Cryptor typically wore a pair of katana that he used in battle, though he also utilized a laser beam built into one of his eyes.
- Nindroid Drone – The soldier of the Nindroid army.
- Nindroid Warrior – The foot soldier of the Nindroid army.
- Min-Droid (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) – The last Nindroid off of the factory line. Unlike other Nindroids, he has short legs due to the factory running out of metal. Despite this, he was a dangerous fighter and not fond of having his height mocked.
Anacondrai Cultists
The Anacondrai Cultists were a sneaky criminal organization created at an unknown time by Master Chen, while he was training Lord Garmadon. They worship the fallen Anacondrai Tribe of Serpentine-each of them having at least one Anacondrai tattoo-and set out to restore them by transforming themselves into Anacondrai. While they succeeded in this plot and invaded Ninjago, they were defeated when the spirits of the true Anacondrai generals were released from the Cursed Realm and sent the Anacondrai Cult there in their place.
- Master Chen (voiced by Ian James Corlett) – Leader of the Condrai Cult, who organized the Tournament of Elements as a ruse to drain all of the Elemental Masters' power using his Staff of Elements. Chen was once Garmadon's master, and convinced him to sign his name to a letter written by Wu in order to woo Misako, thus making him indirectly responsible for Lloyd's existence. During the Serpentine War, he tricked both sides into thinking that the other would attack, and then sided with the Serpentine while turning the Elemental Masters against each other. At the end of the war he was banished to an island for his crimes, but established a successful chain of restaurants in Ninjago. He hired Ronin to capture Zane and P.I.X.A.L., using the former to lure the other four ninja into joining his tournament, planting his daughter Skylor, who inherited her elemental power of Amber from Chen's unseen wife, into the tournament to spy on the Ninja and all the other Elemental Masters to keep them from banding together against him. He also attempted to turn Kai against the other ninja by sharing secrets about Kai's parents. Unfortunately for Chen, Skylor's growing feelings for Kai and her recognition of his evil path turned her against him, though he did manage to use her power of Amber to complete his plan to transform his cult into Anacondrai. He then invaded Kryporium Prison , capturing Pythor in order to use his sweat to make the transformation permanent, and revealing the truth of Garmadon's old deception to Wu and Misako. However, he met his end when Garmadon allowed himself to be banished to the Cursed Realm, freeing the Serpentine General spirits to whom Chen had lied previously. They then cursed Chen, sending him and his followers into the Cursed Realm, and Chen's pleas for help went unheeded by his daughter, who finally saw her father for the monster he was. In Season 5, he was killed by the Cursed Realm's destruction. In "Day of the Departed", Chen is among the villains Cole unintentionally revives. Chen chooses to use his new weaponized chair to kill Kai and Nya, but Nya is able to redirect the missiles he fired at them, blowing him up and sending him back to the Departed Realm. He is the main antagonist of Season 4.
- Clouse (voiced by Scott McNeil) – A dark wizard who is Chen's second-in-command and Lord Garmadon's old rival. The two competed for Chen's favor as his students, but Clouse lost because Garmadon cheated. Clouse and Chen were both exiled from Ninjago, but Clouse returned to gather the contestants for the Tournament of Elements. He was reunited with his old rival as a result, and throughout the tournament he and Garmadon continued to clash, Garmadon usually foiling his attempts to sabotage the ninja with his magic. Clouse's spell book and magical abilities were a key part of the Cult's plan to become Anacondrai, but after the Staff of Elements was destroyed they had to change plans. Clouse never saw the fruition of their efforts, however, as an attempt to banish Garmadon to the Cursed Realm during their final showdown resulted in his own banishment. He had a large purple snake pet that may be related to the Anacondrai, but it was killed by the escaping Elemental Masters. Clouse is the major antagonist of Season 4 and Season 6.
- Eyezor/Eyezorai (voiced by Michael Donovan) – A Condrai Cult member, he only has one eye and has a black mohawk. He and Zugu appeared as Anacondrai in "Day of the Departed".
- Zugu/Zugurai (voiced by Brian Dobson) – A Condrai Cult member; he has red armour. Zugu was credited as "Sumo Zumo." He and Eyezor appeared as Anacondrai in "Day of the Departed".
- Sleven – A Condrai Cult member.
- Krait – A Condrai Cult member.
- Kapau/Kapau'rai (voiced by Alessandro Juliani) – A Condrai Cult member who is best friends with Chope. The two of them took on their names in hope of getting attention from Master Chen, and ended up serving as his seconds-in-command following Clouse's exile.
- Chope/Chop'rai (voiced by Ian Hanlin) – A Condrai Cult member frequently in the company of Kapau, and who with him captured Skylor and read the spell that employed her Elemental Powers to turn the Cult members into Anacondrai.
The Ghost Warriors
Evil Warriors and Ghosts associated with Morro and summoned by him from the Cursed Realm through the use of the Allied Armor of Azure. They have the ability to turn other living things into ghosts, and some of them can infuse their ghostly energy into vehicles and objects. As ghosts they are immune to most forms of physical attack, but are vulnerable to water as it is ever changing, which can cause them to dissolve into ectoplasm. Their only other vulnerability is to Deepstone, a substance mined from beneath the ocean floor, which can either contain them or be forged into weapons for use against them, such as the Aeroblades the ninja obtain from Ronin. While Morro leads the group in the field, their true master is the Preeminent, Queen of the Cursed Realm.
- Morro (voiced by Andrew Francis, Michael Dobson in The Corridor of Elders) – Morro is the Master of Wind and Master Wu's first and former student, whom Wu thought might be the destined Green Ninja. Unfortunately, the idea of this destiny filled him with arrogance, and he later turned down the path of darkness after learning that he wasn't destined for that role. For that reason, he went in search for the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master. In Season 5, now a ghost, he escapes the Cursed Realm and spends most of the season possessing Lloyd, as the Evil Green Ninja. He meets his end when he is pulled into the water by the Preeminent after its defeat, but not before making peace with Wu, and giving him the Realm Crystal. In "Day of the Departed", Morro is among the villains Cole unintentionally revives. He goes to meet up with Master Wu. However, unlike the other villains, Morro has learned his lesson and actually helps his former mentor and the ninjas by telling them about Master Yang's plan. After the ninjas leave to help Cole defeat Master Yang, Morro peacefully returns to the Departed Realm.
- Weapon Masters - The Weapon Masters are a bunch of ghosts who are experts at their signature weapons. Among the known Weapon Masters are:
- Chain Master Wrayth (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) - The first of the Weapon Masters to be summoned by Morro using the Allied Armor, who wields a chain with a blade on the end. He used his ghostly energy to transform a motorcycle into his vehicle (similar to Marvel Comics' Ghost Rider) and attacked the ninja, but was defeated when the contents of a water tower were dumped on him. He later returned when Morro used the Realm Crystal to open a portal to the Cursed Realm to free the Preeminent and her warriors, and took over the town of Stiix before being engaged by the Ninja.
- Blade Master Bansha (voiced by Kathleen Barr) - The only female Weapon Master, who wields a double-bladed sword and can, like her namesake, scream at a hyper-sonic pitch. Bansha is vicious and eager to do battle, and hates being forced to wait. Unlike her fellow ghosts, she has been shown able to possess a person from a distance, having taken control of Misako in order to attack Wu; however, this power can be broken by water.
- Scythe Master Ghoultar (voiced by Paul Dobson) - The most slow-witted of the Weapon Masters, who wields a scythe in battle. Shortly after being summoned from the Cursed Realm he possessed Nya's Samurai X Mech, transforming it into his personal vehicle: Mech-enstein. He was captured by the Ninja and their allies but later escaped, only to be defeated by an Aeroblade. He and a host of other Ghost Warriors and Ninja later returned to occupy Stiix and defend the Realm Crystal while it maintained the portal for the Preeminent.
- Bow Master Soul Archer (voiced by Brian Dobson) - The second Weapon Master to be summoned by Morro, a master archer who never misses his target. He and Ronin have some history together, and Ronin owes Soul Archer a considerable debt that Soul Archer is determined to collect. The Ghost Warriors used this to their advantage by contacting Ronin and offering to lift the curse on his soul incurred by this debt in exchange for him turning over the Sword of Sanctuary. Ronin reluctantly did so, but upon learning that they also wanted him to help them get rid of the Ninja he refused. He and Bansha aided Morro in claiming the Realm Crystal, and later took part in the defense of Stiix when the Ninja attacked in an effort to stop them.
- Ghost Ninjas - A division of the Ghost Warriors consisting of various ghosts in Ninja gi who are virtually identical. The sets identify several specific Ghost Ninja as Attila, Hackler, Howla, Ming, Spyder and Wooo.
- Ghost Warriors - A second division of Ghost Warriors who are virtually identical, all sporting domed hats similar to that worn by Wu. The sets for the series identify several specific Ghost Warriors as Cowler, Cyrus, Ghurka, Pitch, Pyrrhus, Wail and Yokai.
- Skreemers - A group of ghostly entities with the ability to turn living beings into ghosts.
The Sky Pirates
The Sky Pirates are a motley crew of renegades who are led by Nadakhan, a Djinn from another realm, and crew a vessel known as Misfortune's Keep.
- Nadakhan (voiced by Scott McNeil) - A villainous Djinn who seeks to steal the elemental powers of the Ninja. When granting a wish, he usually twists the words of whoever makes the wish and/or finds a loophole in their wish so he can turn it into a nightmare. If the victim wishes for it all to go away, Nadakhan traps them in the Djinn blade (a sword formerly owned by his father that can use the powers of anyone trapped inside it). Prior to the events of the series, he was trapped into a mystical artifact called the Teapot of Tyrahn by Captain Soto. In season 6, the now ghostly Clouse found the teapot and freed Nadakhan so he could wish for his spellbook (which was burnt by Lloyd), his humanity (resulting in severe pain) and for it all to go away (trapping Clouse in the teapot). After which, Nadakhan uses his shape shifting abilities to frame the ninjas for various crimes they didn't commit, allowing him to trap Wu and Misako in the teapot, and steal the Realm Crystal, so he can free his crew from an unseen dimension. Upon freeing them and learning of the destruction of his home, he is given the Djinn blade by his father, destroys the Teapot of Tyrahn and traps its former prisoners in the Djinn blade and seeks to do the same to the ninjas, with Kai being the first to suffer this fate and Zane following afterwards. He plans to use the powers he gains from trapping the ninjas to turn Ninjago into a replica of his home realm, Djinjago (which was destroyed as a side effect of the destruction of its sister realm, the Cursed Realm), as well as marry Nya (who is a dead ringer of his deceased love Delara) so that he (being the Prince of Djinjago) can grant himself infinite wishes, an ability a Djinn prince gains from marrying a human girl and becoming king. Jay eventually manages to free his teammates from the Djinn blade. In the season six finale, he succeeds in completing the marriage ceremony, thus making him omnipotent. Having no use for his crew anymore, he banishes Clancee, Doubloon and Monkey Wretch back to the dimension they were previously sent to. He also has Dilara's consciousness possess Nya briefly, until he is poisoned with Tiger Widow venom (the venom of a massive spider which can slow down and weaken Djinns but kill humans). Unfortunately, some of the venom splashes onto Nya, killing her. Having used his first two wishes long before this, Jay makes his final wish: that Nya would hold his hand and that no-one had ever found the Teapot of Tyrahn in the first place, thus preventing nearly all of the events of the sixth season from happening, reviving Nya and trapping Nadakhan in the Teapot of Tyrahn forever.
- Flintlocke (voiced by Paul Dobson) - Nadakhan's mustachioed second-in-command who is dressed like an old-time aviator. Jay manages to plant the thought that Nadakhan will betray him after gaining becoming omnipotent. He is shown to be very skilled with a gun, claiming to never miss a shot. Lloyd however, manages to use his first wish to eliminate Flintlocke's gun accuracy. After Nadakhan becomes omnipotent, Flintlocke sides with the ninja and regains his gun accuracy, allowing him to shoot a dart filled Tiger Widow venom at Nadakhan.
- Doubloon (voiced by Vincent Tong) - A sinister-looking general who resembles a shinigami (Japanese demon) in Samurai armor. According to Clancee, he was a two-faced crook before joining Nadakhan's crew. When he was imprisoned, he made a wish with Nadakhan to avoid serving his sentence, but Nadakhan considered his agility to be useful for him and put Doubloon on his Crew, while in the process, giving Doubloon a second face on the back of his head. It was soon discovered that Doubloon was able to use Spinjitzu. In the season six finale, after witnessing Clancee being banished by Nadakhan, he and Monkey Wretch immediately suffer the same fate.
- Clancee (voiced by Ian James Corlett) - A green Serpentine warrior who appears to be somewhat cowardly, to the point where he has not even made a wish with Nadakhan. He only joined the Sky Pirates because he was an outcast among the Serpentine. Against his will, Nadakhan has him use his first wish to send Cole and Lloyd into the Djinn blade. After Nadakhan gains omnipotence, Clancee immediately rebels against him after realising Nadakhan planned to betray the Sky Pirates after gaining omnipotence, which results in Clancee being banished back to the dimension the Sky Pirates were sent to.
- Sqiffy (voiced by Michael Adamthwaite) - A human who wears a patch over his right eye. He and Bucko want to join the Sky Pirate crew. His true name is Landon.
- Bucko (voiced by Brian Dobson) - A human who wears a patch over his left eye. He and Sqiffy want to join the Sky Pirate Crew. His true name is Colin.
- Cyren - A female human pirate with black hair who wears a patch over her left eye.
- Dogshank (voiced by Nicole Oliver) - A massive pirate who wears a helmet that conceals most of her head. Clancee claimed that she was originally the second-prettiest girl at a beauty pageant, she made a wish with Nadakhan to stand out, causing her to turn into a muscular, blue-skinned behemoth. However, the webisode "The Tall Tale of Dogshank" reveals that Dogshank's true past: she was originally a young, red-haired girl who was very competitive, doing whatever it took to win in the sporting events she took part in, even if it meant cheating, but she never won, so she made a wish with Nadakhan and joined his crew in order to achieve this, which gave her her hulking, blue form. In the season six finale, she and Flintlocke side with the ninjas after witnessing Nadakhan banish their fellow sky pirates.
- Monkey Wretch (voiced by Ian James Corlett) - A robot monkey who was originally a human before meeting Nadakhan. He wished to be the best mechanic of his type, but unfortunately for him, that title belongs to the race of robot monkeys he is today. In the season six finale, after witnessing Nadakhan banish Clancee, he and Doubloon immediately suffer the same fate.
Ghost Teacher and Students
- Master Kodokuna Yang (voiced by Michael Donovan) - Master Yang is the creator of Airjitzu and a spirit trapped in the Temple on Haunted Hill. Yang is also the main antagonist of Day of the Departed. At an unknown point in time, Yang invented the art of Airjitzu, and decided to preserve his work by passing it down to his students, which he had gathered shortly after he created the martial art. He was an excellent master who even had a statue of himself built before the Temple of Airjitzu in his honor. However, his pupils were afraid of him because of his strict teachings, causing him to become sinister, malevolent, and insane. By this time, he has become infamous for his strictness. He began locking students in the attic of his temple. However, unbeknownst to the public, he secretly trapped his students in his temple. He was known as a master without students. He wrote several scrolls with instructions on how to perform Airjitzu, some of which are kept in the attic of his temple, and believed that someone would learn it in the future. He soon discovered a mystical weapon called the "Yin Blade", which can tear a rift between the Departed Realm and provide the key to immortality. However, when he attempted to use it on himself, he and all his students turned into ghosts, explaining why he cannot leave his temple. He "turned" Cole into a ghost. Master Yang has a more major role in "Day of the Departed" as the primary antagonist. On the titular holiday, it happens to be a special Day of the Departed where a rare Yin Yang lunar eclipse occurs, allowing him to use the Yin Blade to open the Rift of Return (a dimensional rift which can turn ghosts into living, breathing humans). He tricks Cole into bringing him the Yin Blade and reviving several past villains to distract the other ninjas so Yang can open the Rift of Return to become mortal again while Cole takes his place as Master of his Temple. Cole is able to show Yang the error of his ways by reminding him that he will be remembered for creating Airjitzu and even attempts to bring him with him into the rift, but Yang chooses to remain a ghost so he can remain Master of his temple while Cole and all of Yang's students regain their mortality, lifting the curse on his temple.
- Chris and Martin - They are two of Master Yang's students. They, along with the other students, regain their mortality after entering the Rift of Return.
- Chuck - He is one of Master Yang's students. He was offered by Cole to assist him in defeating Yang but he refuses silently and is promptly defeated. He, along with the other students, regains his mortality after entering the Rift of Return.
