Deighton railway station serves the Deighton area of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.

Deighton station is the first station 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Huddersfield railway station on the Huddersfield Line towards Leeds.

History

There have been two stations at Deighton, on different routes.

The first station, on the branch line to Kirkburton, opened on 30 August 1871,[1] the branch having opened in 1867.[2] This station was situated on the north-east side of Whitacre Street.[2] It closed on 28 July 1930.[1]

The present station was opened on 26 April 1982[1] by Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive). It is to the south-west of Whitacre Street and close to the site of the former Kirkburton branch junction.[2]

Services

Local trains on the Huddersfield Line operated by Northern from Huddersfield that stops at Deighton going towards Leeds and Wakefield Westgate. Both services operate hourly Monday to Fridays, with a half-hourly service to Leeds in rush hours and Saturdays.[3]

There is a two-hourly service in each direction on Sundays on the Leeds to Huddersfield route only (no service to/from Wakefield) : most westbound trains used to continue through to Marsden prior to the December 2008 timetable change but most now terminate at Huddersfield, with only a few still operating between Marsden and Leeds.
