Bulgarian–Kosovan relations are foreign relations between Bulgaria and Kosovo[a].

Relations

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008 and after an evenly split vote in the legistaure, Bulgaria recognised it on 20 March 2008.[1] Bulgaria has an embassy in Pristina[2] and Republic of Kosovo has opened its Embassy in Sofia as of January 2010.

Throughout the Middle Ages, Kosovo has been part of the vast Bulgarian Empire.

Military

Bulgaria currently has 48 troops serving in Kosovo as peacekeepers in the NATO led Kosovo Force.[3]

ICJ

Bulgaria supported Kosovo at the International Court of Justice's oral debate on the legality of Kosovo's independence.[4]

a. ^ Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia. The Republic of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence on 17 February 2008, but Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory. The two governments began to normalise relations in 2013, as part of the Brussels Agreement. Kosovo has received recognition as an independent state from 110 out of 193 United Nations member states.
