Amityville: The Nightmare Continues is a 1991 horror novel written by Robin Karl. It is the final installment and attempted reboot of Amityville book series.
Plot
Amityville, New York. Once the Dutch Colonial house on Ocean Avenue had been the scene of a gruesome possession that sent its owners fleeing for their sanity and their lives. For years, it had remained abandoned, without any sign of disturbance. Then 11-year-old Kooch Webster dared his buddy Lester to sneak into the house. They only wanted to steal some junk to make a little pocket money. But something terrible still lurked within the crumbling walls—a monstrous evil that threatened to destroy not only the boys, but anyone who came in contact with them. Insidiously, the evil within the house spread into the community; a pawnbroker who bought the boys' stolen goods was found brutally slain, a priest disappeared mysteriously after visiting the house, and soon Kooch, Lester and their families were caught in an unrelenting web of terror for which there was no rational explanation, and no possible escape.
Subplots
There are three subplots, which are:
- Alice Chambers: A woman living with her abusive new husband and trying to maintain her new household. Her story is told mostly through diary entries. Soon she begins having nightmares about a woman and a deformed baby. She discovers that they are the spirits from 112 Ocean ave.
- Lester Chambers: Alice's new stepson. He is constantly abused by his religious father. He breaks into 112 Ocean Avenue so he can get a cigarette from Kooch. He usually gets in trouble for things Kooch does. As the story moves on, Lester's story slightly becomes shorter.
- Donald "Kooch" Webster: An 11-year-old troublemaker. He breaks into 112 Ocean Avenue to steal items to sell so he can pay off his debt. As the story continues Kooch continues to go back and steal items from the house even after he is warned that the spirits will harm him. He becomes possessed by the ghosts twice and the second time he violently attacks his mother. After he is forced to return the stolen items from the house he goes back and is last seen burning in the red room.
Continuity
The book ignores the Defeo and Lutz storylines and instead attempts to start a new storyline. The book like the previous books was released as non-fiction. Although the plot of the book is impossible because the Cromarty Family moved in after the Lutz family and experienced no haunting. Also, they moved in only a year after the Lutz family fled, not 10 years as described in the book. The book is left open for a sequel, however none has ever been made.
