Yao Di (born 17 March 1982) is a Chinese actress.[1][2][3][4]

Yao has won Top 10 New Spirit Artist Award at the 5th Huading Awards and New Performer Award at the Golden Phoenix Awards, and received nominations at the Golden Eagle Award for Favorite Actress.

Life

Yao was born in Tongxiang, Jiaxing, Zhejiang on March 17, 1982. She graduated from Beijing Film Academy and Hangzhou Arts School.

At the age of 18, Yao entered the entertainment industry.[5]

Yao began her career by appearing in small roles in many television series and films, such as June Sunlight, Music Up, Master Lu Ban, The Last Concubine, Golden Earring, Initiating Prosperity. Yao's first film role was a worker uncredited appearance in the film A Zhen and Her Hostess (2004).

Yao rose to fame for her roles in television series and film such as The Dream of Red Mansions (2008) and City of Life and Death (2009).[6][7] Yao won Best Supporting Actress Award at the TV Drama Awards for her performance.

In 2009, Yao appeared as Wang Xifeng in Looking for Jackie, a film starring Jackie Chan, Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu. At the same year, Yao won Top 10 New Spirit Artist Award at the 5th Huading Awards.

In 2010, Yao starred opposite Yam Tat-wah, Francis Ng Chun Yu, and Yoyo Yang in Midnight Beating, it won a high gross of ¥32 million[8] in the early release. That same year, Yao starred as Xiao Ai, reuniting her with co-star Jimmy Lin, who played Shan Min, in the affectional film If I Were You.

Yao starred in Naked Wedding, a romantic comedy television series starring Wen Zhang, Ding Jiali and Zhang Kaili, the series was one of the most watched ones in mainland China in that year, and she eared critical acclaim, the audience called her "National girlfriend". At the same year, Yao participated in Love Is Not Blind, the box office took in over ¥189 million[9] in the first week and in over ¥350 million[10] ultimately.

In 2012, Yao starred in Beijing Youth as Tang Jiao, a romantic comedy television series starring Jerry Lee, Du Chun and Ma Su. She won the Favorite Actress Award at the TV Drama Awards.

In 2013, Yao played the lead role in New Age of Love. She received positive reviews.

In 2014, Yao was found to have an affair with actor Wen Zhang while Wen's legal wife Ma Yili just gave birth to their second daughter. Some rumors suggested that their secret romance began when Ma was pregnant. Wen apologized to his family when he was caught by the media while Yao was widely blamed by the public through social media. Yao chose to keep silent after the disputed event and tried to escape from the public. Even her parents had no idea about where she was and what she was doing.
