Yanam district is one of the four districts of the Union Territory of Puducherry in India.

Geography

Yanam district occupies an area of 20 square kilometres (7.7 sq mi),[1]

It is located south of Kakinada port on the north bank of Godavari river slightly inland at 16.73 N latitude and 82.21 E longitude. It is surrounded by East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the 2011 census Yanam district has a population of 55,616,[2] roughly equal to the island of Greenland.[3] This gives it a ranking of 629th in India (out of a total of 640).[2] The district has a population density of 3,272 inhabitants per square kilometre (8,470/sq mi) .[2] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 77.15%.[2] Yanam has a sex ratio of 1039 females for every 1000 males,[2] and a literacy rate of 80.26%.[2]
