Private William R. Fox (born 1837) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Fox received the country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Third Battle of Petersburg in Virginia on 2 April 1865. He was honored with the award on 28 March 1879.[1][2][3]
Biography
Fox was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1837. He enlisted into the 95th Pennsylvania Infantry.
Medal of Honor citation
Bravely assisted in the capture of one of the enemy's guns; with the first troops to enter the city, captured the flag of the Confederate customhouse.[1][2]
