Westar is a watch manufacturer established in the early 1980s. It is owned by the Al-Futtaim Group and sells watches primarily in the Middle East.

History

In 1985,[1] Westar was officially launched. It distributed products to subsidiaries of Al-Futtaim Group in UAE, Oman and Qatar. In 1987, Westar expanded its operation to markets including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria and Lebanon. In 1990, Westar made its presence known in the Far East and Commonwealth of Independent States countries. Russia[2] became one of its strongest distributors.

In 2003, the tagline for Westar was changed to “Wrist Fashion”. To date, Westar products are distributed across more than 45 countries worldwide. In 2012[3] Westar opened a wholly owned subsidiary in Chennai, India.

Logo etymology

Westar watches chose William Tell’s crossbow as its logo.
