Wanmelbu

Wanmelbu is the first known ancestor of the Fanla community in North Ambrym, Vanuatu. He's from the western part of the island, in the area of Ranbeteon. He left his family and got lost in the sea. The young man finally reached the Linbul shore and befriended the local families.

Chief Molbu, owner of the boundary of Fanla, died without having sons to take care of his land. He adopted the young Wanmelbu and, through Kastom ceremonies, gave the rights to the young chief to own the place in the future. There are a lot of legends about Wanmelbu history, but his Nassara still remains in the actual village of Fanla, but is highly considered as tabu. When he died, his first-born son Tingtingru took his place.
