The Venezuelan Catholic Apostolic Church (ICANVEN - Iglesia Católica Apostólica Venezolana), is an independent Catholic church in Venezuela.[1] Its current Patriarch is Guillermo Pacheco, who also serves as the Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of San Juan Bautista Venezuela.[2]
The Church was formally created on 1947 by former Roman Catholic priest Luis Fernando Castillo Mendez and three other clergymen. Castillo Mendez changed the liturgical vestments from black to pearl-gray, made Spanish as the liturgical language instead of Latin and permitted the clergy to marry, which resulted in formal excommunications of the highest degree.[3]
