Vedurupaka is a village in Rayavaram mandal, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh state, India located nearly 30 km away from Kakinada.
Local economy is mainly agrarian and the village is surrounded by lush green paddy fields. With a population of 17,585,[1] it has produced many Vedic, Biblical and other Scholars. The name Vedurupaka comes from the great king of Mahabharata, Vidura who spent later part of his life in this village.[2]
The river "Tulyabhaga" which flows by Vedurupaka is an agricultural drain which William Wilson Hunter described it as one of the seven[3] estuaries of the mighty river Godavari River.
Cultural affinities
One of the main village attractions is "Vijaya Durga Peetham" a place of worship of the Hindu goddess Durga.[2] The village festival of "POLERAMMA JATHARA" OR "SAMBARAM" usually takes place each May; it is a 2 day carnival of religious fervour and traditional dances. This event was supervised by the late Sri Murthineedi Venkayya Garu for 40 years. The village is famous for Hindu temples which were built by the king of peddapuram "Thimma gaja pathi maharaja" in the 1700AD.[2] This village attracts visitors from many parts of the world to participate in the famous "Dasara" festivals.
The CBM-Church of the Convention of Baptist Churches of Northern Circars and the Catholic Church under the aegis of the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam[4] near the market square are much in the limelight during the annual Christmas and Easter celebrations. The village also has other small[5] and indigenous Churches[6] as well. Among the notable ecclesiastical personalities who visited the village include The Reverend K. David, Ph.D. (Edinburgh),[7] The Reverend S. E. Krupa Rao, S.T.M. (Union) and Reverend Father Thomas Pallithanam,[8] B. Th. (Salesian).

Air
Nearest Airport is Rajahmundry Airport at Madhurapudi (43 km).
Rail
Nearest Railway Station is Balabhadrapuram ((8 km)) which is only a Passenger Train halt station. For Express and Superfast Trains, Rajahmundry (40 km), Dwarapudi (18 km), Anaparti (14 km), Samarlakota (31 km) are the railway stations to alight from where transport is available up to Balabhadrapuram by the state-run bus and then from Balabhadrapuram to Polamputta on the boundary of Rayavaram, share autos are available to Vedurupaka.
Road
Road access to Vedurupaka is through multi-direction access. From the west it can be accessed through Balabhadrapuram, the east, Ramachandrapuram, Konkuduru in the north and Rayavaram in the south. Nearest Bus Stations is Ramachandrapuram. Autos and Private transport is available from these places to reach Vedurupaka.
Education
The first school in Vedurupaka was established by the Canadian Baptist Mission,[4] one of the early Christian mission initiatives, which was later gifted to the Government. This village has presently three Government Primary Schools along with SPPR Zilla Parishath High School.
