History
J.G. Van Holten & Son, Inc. was founded by J.G. Van Holten, a Dutch immigrant. Initially, the company began as a vinegar distributor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and soon sauerkraut and pickles were added to the product line. After recognizing a shift in consumer demand for convenience and individually packaged food products they invented the individually wrapped pickle.
In 1992, the company was purchased from the Van Holten family by Milwaukee entrepreneur Jim Byrnes.
