Transport in Vijayawada

There are various modes of transportation available in Vijayawada and its region. It includes auto rickshaws, bicycles to mass transit systems – such as buses and trains.

The traffic uses inner ring road in the city. There are many highways that pass through the city connecting Vijayawada to major cities in India. There are two major roads in the city M.G. Road and Eluru road. The construction of the Outer Ring Road which connects Amaravati and Gannavaram on Eluru road.[1][2] he work is scheduled to be completed by 2015.[3] It stars after Kanaka Durgamma Varadhi in Vijayawada and ends somewhere near Chilakaluripeta via Guntur.

Benz Circle is one of the busiest road junctions in the city with an average of 57,000 vehicles crossing daily, The junction has the intersection of two national highways of NH5 and NH9 intersects.[4]

Two and three wheelers have dominated the streets of the city. Vijayawada is the regional headquarters of the state run APSRTC, which operates city bus services to all parts of the city.[5] Pandit Nehru bus station is the major bus station, operating about 2500 bus services per day and also there exists a minor one at Autonagar area of the city.[6]

Vijayawada Junction is one of the busiest junctions and has the divisional headquarter of Vijayawada division of South Central Railway zone.[7] The city of Vijayawada has ten satellite railway stations.[8] They are :

Vijayawada Airport is located near Gannavaram. It connects the city with Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Chennai, Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Kadapa. Vijayawada Airport is served by Air India, SpiceJet, TruJet and Air Costa. Annually, about 380,000 passengers use this airport. A plan for its expansion has been proposed which will enable the landing of larger aircraft by August 2016. It also has night landing facilities. AAI is planning to make it International airport by 2020[9]
