ThinkYoung is a Brussels-based youth think tank. ThinkYoung is also located in Geneva and Hong Kong.
Organization
ThinkYoung is a think tank that focuses on subjects related to younger people, and is populated by scholars in their twenties. The think tank was founded in 2007 by three Italians including Andrea Gerosa, who remains the head of the organization.[1][2] The group is also a lobbying entity, which works with the European Union and its governmental instruments on youth-related issues. Gerosa has stated of its lobbying efforts that, “Among the things we pushed forward a lot is increase the budget for the new Erasmus Programme, we pushed up a lot better law for start-ups, make an easier policy for visa liberalisation for people coming from Kosovo, and especially for the young people who want to study in the EU.”[3]
Events
On July 11, 2013, ThinkYoung held a debate on the subject of entrepreneurial failure at the European Parliament, as a part of the organizations 2013 series of events Fail2Succeed. Fail2Succeed is a research conducted by ThinkYoung with the aim of overcoming the stigma of failure of young entrepreneurs. The event was put together in concert with the organization’s fourth annual Entrepreneurship Summer School, which has been held in Brussels annually since 2009 through partnership with Google, Amway, and Huawei.[4][5][6][7][8]
Studies
In 2012 ThinkYoung released a study entitled “Youth Attitudes to the Job Market: Overcoming the Skills Mismatch”, which looked at the skills of youth entering the job market in comparison to the jobs made available to them, and how to bridge the apparent gap.[7] ThinkYoung has also partnered with Tata Consultancy Services to determine the gap between new graduates and the digital skills they require to participate in the workforce.[9]
In October 2013, ThinkYoung produced a study of European youth, as regards how their use of mobile devices and social media sites is affected when crossing the international borders from their home countries within Europe. The survey helped support the Commission’s regulatory goal of eliminating roaming charges for European Union citizens when crossing between nations, through the establishment of the Connected Continent legislation package.[10][11][12][13] ThinkYoung has also produced surveys of young people entering the job market in Europe, intended to determine the existence of discrimination or inequality in the contemporary hiring processes.[1]
According to the European Business Review, “The goal of this … think-tank is to provide young Europeans with a platform where their voices can be heard, no matter what they say … ThinkYoung’s philosophy is, the more opinions we hear the better the picture we will get of youth's views.”[14]
