Thanthoni is a town in Karur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. As of 2011, the town had a population of 53,854.

Demographics

According to 2011 census, Thanthonimalai had a population of 53,854 with a sex-ratio of 986 females for every 1,000 males, much above the national average of 929.[1] A total of 5,624 were under the age of six, constituting 3,004 males and 2,620 females. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes accounted for 15.09% and .07% of the population respectively. The average literacy of the town was 77.24%, compared to the national average of 72.99%.[1] The town had a total of 14729 households. There were a total of 23,177 workers, comprising 418 cultivators, 690 main agricultural labourers, 592 in house hold industries, 20,451 other workers, 1,026 marginal workers, 24 marginal cultivators, 138 marginal agricultural labourers, 58 marginal workers in household industries and 806 other marginal workers.[2]

Culture

Thanthonrimalai is the original name of the Thanthoni..The god named KALYANA VENKATRAMAN (LORD VISHNU) resides here.The name Thanthondrimalai is because the god himself appeared and called as Thaan Thondriya Malai and lateer it is known as Thanthoni malai.This temple is famous among people from all class of living. This temple is especially famous and powerful for those who have trouble arranging marriage. more or less this temple cures all sort of disease of the people and so on saturdays, the temple is filled by the devotees of Lord Vishnu. Devotees are blessed with Thirumanjal and Tulsi besides Holy water, that cures all the ailments of people. Lord Hanuman is found three different places in the temple. One is i the threshold of the temple followed by the next inside the temple. Finally, we can see Lord Hanuman on the right side entrance very close to the steps. This Hanuman is really very special because of the Vilva tree, which is most probably found only in Lord Shiva Temples. Recently, the temple is equipped lift facility for those who cannot walk on the steps and wheelchairs are also available. One can see the Prasatha Stall down near the corridor where photos and the books about the temple can be had.
