Tammy Jih

Tamara Tien-Jan "Tammy" Jih (Chinese: 季湉然; pinyin: Jì Tiánrán) (Born 1982) is an American lawyer and contestant on the 14th season of The Amazing Race, an American reality television game show. She and her brother, Victor Jih, were the winners of the competition.

Early life and career

Tammy Jih was born and raised in Los Gatos, California. Her parents had migrated from Taipei, Taiwan to settle in the United States in the 1970s. Before emigrating to the US, her father received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1968. In 1975, he received his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from UC Berkeley.^[1] Her parents have since returned to their home country, Taiwan in 1997.^[2]

Jih grew up in a Mandarin-speaking family with two brothers who are nine and six years older than her.^[3] Her second brother is a family doctor currently based in Loma Linda.

Jih attended Los Gatos High School and graduated in 1999. She received a B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University in 2003, and in 2006, earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School.^[4] She worked as a business litigator at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP from 2006 to 2010. Now, she has taken on a new position as general litigation counsel at Google in Mountain View, California.^[5]

The Amazing Race

In October and November 2008, Tammy participated with her eldest brother, Victor Jih in filming of the 14th season of The Amazing Race. The season premiered on February 15, 2009 with the finale on May 10, 2009. They were the winners of the Race, and were the first Asian American contestants to win the competition. Including the final leg, they had won first place five times.

They have appeared as guests on many television talk shows including The Bonnie Hunt Show and Live with Regis and Kelly.
