Tamarkuz (foaled February 26, 2010) is a retired racehorse who is has and won on 3 continents with 4 stakes wins and 1 grade 1 win.

Background

Tamarkuz is a chestnut horse whose father was the mighty Speightstown and on his dam is by Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid.

European career

In Europe he only ran in Weight for Age and handicap races. During this time he was  ran Irregularly. In 3 years he only ran 6 times with a total of 3 wins.

Dubai career

He began running at Meydan Racecourse in 2014 with a 5th even failing to finish. He returned the following year to win 4 of 5 with wins in the Firebreak stakes, the Burj Nahaar, But the highlight was his nose victory over  Sloane Avenue in the Godolphin Mile.

American career

After success in Dubai Tamarkuz went over to America to hopefully get even bigger wins. It all started in 2015 with a 4th place Finnish in the Met Mile, Then he was 6th in the Forgeo Stakes, and another 4th in the Kelso Handicap. A year later he went to run in Ameica again and running the same 3 races as before. It started with a 9th in the Met Mile. The interesting thing was his next 2 races in the Forgo and the Kelso, he was second. After that he had a new race to try and win. The breeders cup dirt mile, He was at odds of 11-1 running against Champions like, Runhappy, and Dortmand. After the first three quarters of a mile were ran in 1:10 by Runhappy, Tamarkuz then flew on by Dortmand and Gun Runner to get a 11-1 upset win in the race. Afterwords he was retired to Shadwell farm.
