XM Café, formerly named Starbucks XM Café, was a Commercial-Free music channel on XM Satellite Radio. XM Café was located on XM channel 45 and was also available on DirecTV channel 832. The channel was scrapped as a part of the Sirius XM Merger in November 2008. It was replaced by the Sirius Satellite Radio channel The Spectrum.
XM Café (2001-2007; 2008)
Prior to the merger, XM Café aired a pure format of modern adult alternative music, Soft Alternative music and Mellow Alternative rock Hits. The channel was part of XM's original programming lineup, dating to 2001.
Starbucks XM Café
From 2007-07-31 until 2008-09-30, the Starbucks-operated XM channel Hear Music merged with XM Café to create the Starbucks XM Café. The format of the channel was mainly modern adult alternative music with some elements of the old Hear Music channel. On 2008-09-30 the channel returned to its former name, according to XM, after a termination of a marketing contract with Starbucks.[1]
Programming
- Build Your Own Show - A show dedicated to listener picked musical and artist selections. Listeners can call up and request one artist for the block which XM Cafe will focus on. It airs on Wednesday at 8:00 PM (ET) with replays the rest of the week.
- Gnu Music Revue - A show dedicated to new music releases; hosted by Bill Evans. It airs on Tuesday at 9:00 AM (ET) with replays the rest of the week.
- The Daily Grind - A show dedicated to Artist Choice sets, exclusive live recordings, and many other features; hosted by Paul Marszalek. It airs on weekdays at 3:00 PM (ET) with replay at 1:00 AM (ET).
- XM Café Live - An hour long live concert by XM Café's biggest names; e.g.: Dave Matthews Band, Steely Dan, Sheryl Crow, Counting Crows etc.; hosted by Brian Chamberlain. It airs on Tuesday at 8:00 PM (ET) with replays the rest of the week.
