The St. Francis Xavier Cathedral[1] is the name given to a religious building belonging to the Roman Catholic Church[2] and located in the West Street near the National Art Museum in the city of Nassau[3] capital of the archipelago of the Bahamas[4] in the Greater Antilles. As its name indicates its pattern is Francisco Javier, a religious and Spanish missionary, a member of the precursor group of the Society of Jesus and close associate of its founder, Ignatius of Loyola, and was canonized by the Church under the name of St. Francis Xavier.
The temple serves as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nassau (Archidioecesis Nassaviensis), follows the Latin or Roman rite and its Metropolitan Archbishop is Patrick Christopher Pinder. The current cathedral is just 17 meters from the old building called Old Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier.
