Solidaridad Obrera (Labour Solidarity) is a small anarcho-syndicalist labour union federation that appeared in Madrid, Spain in 1990 as a split from the Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT), itself a split from the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT), the Spanish member of the International Workers Association (IWA) (In Spanish: Asociación International de los Trabajadores or AIT). Its founders did not accept resolutions made by the CGT congress in 1989. The union regularly publishes Contramarcha and El Solidario
Ideology and principles
Solidaridad Obrera lies somewhere between what they consider reformism, represented by CGT and intransigent anarchism, represented by CNT-AIT. They participate in works committees when the union sections decide to do so. They never accept government subsidies. All kinds of activity depend on member assemblies, where information is readily transmitted. They publish regular papers and bulletins edited by each union section. Publishing traditional, out of print and new books about anarcho-syndicalism and work news is also a particular feature of this union. Their statutes emphasize that members of any political party cannot participate in union elections or be a union representative. Solidaridad Obrera does not accept members belonging to security forces or priests of any religious faith. The union takes its name from a Catalonian anarchist union which became active at the beginning of the 20th century (1907–1911)
Representation
Solidaridad Obrera has members inside work councils in Tarragona, Cantabria and Madrid. Solidaridad Obrera has about 800 members. It's secretary general is currently Miguel Angel Arroyo Fernández.
