The Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) is the professional body for Local Council Clerks and presently represents the Clerks to over 4,500 councils.[1]

History

The SLCC was formed in 1972 at a side meeting held during the National Association of Local Councils conference. It started with under 50 member Clerks and has steadily grown. In 2001, the National Executive Council took the decision to appoint professional officers to run the society which has seen it grow to serve over 4500 councils with a turnover of over £1,000,000.[2]

A National Executive Council is elected across the county branches.

Institute of Local Council Management

The Institute of Local Council Management is managed by an advisory panel and Institute Officer. It is open to all SLCC members and is committed to supporting its members throughout their careers by focusing more on the key benefits of professional recognition within the sector and professional development through continuous professional development (CPD).[3]
