Soblet descendants in America

In America, the Soblet family name traces back to French Huguenot refugee Abraham Soblet and his family, who arrived in Virginia in 1700 and settled in Manakintown.^[1]

After 1700, the family name became Anglicized to common American spellings, including Sublet, Sublett, and Sublette. (Some families in Europe continue to use the spelling Soblet or Soublet.)

Among Abraham Soblet's children are:

• Ann Soblet, who married Pierre Chastain (another Huguenot refugee) -- They had many notable Chastain descendants in America, including soccer star Brandi Chastain and film actress Joan Crawford (born Lucille Fay LeSueur, a descendant of David LeSueur and Elizabeth Chastain).
• Jacques Soblet -- ancestor of many Sublett and Sublette descendants in America, including American author Clifford MacClellan Sublette.
• Pierre Louis Soblet -- ancestor of most Sublett and Sublette descendants in America, including William Sublette (mountain man and fur trader); Ursula Sublett Day's grandson William Herndon (lawyer); John L. Sublett (World War II air ace in Chuck Yeager's squadron);^[2] Damon Sublett (Minor League Baseball player with the Staten Island Yankees and Tampa Yankees); and Ned Sublette (musician and Cuban music authority).
