Sher Jung Thapa
Brigadier Sher Jung Thapa (Nepali: शेर जंग थापा) also revered as The Hero of Skardu, is one of the few recipients of Indian Army's second highest gallantary award the Mahavir Chakra (MVC).[1]
Personal life
Sher Jung Thapa was born in Abbottabad, Punjab, British India (now Pakistan) on 15 April 1907 and died at Army Hospital, Delhi on 25 February 1999.[2] While his grandfather, Subedar Balkrishna Thapa (2/5 GR), had moved to India and settled there, the ancestral home was at Tapke Gaun, Gorkha District, Nepal. Sher Jung's father was Honorary Captain Arjun Thapa (2/5 GR) and was a World War II veteran.[2]
