Shauna L. Shapiro, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Santa Clara University, a licensed clinical psychologist and an internationally recognized expert in mindfulness. She has been invited to speak for the King of Thailand, the Danish Government, the World Psychotherapy Conference, Beijing China, and is the co-author of critically acclaimed text, The Art and Science of Mindfulness: Integrating Mindfulness into Psychology and the Helping Professions.[1]
Education
Shapiro received a B.A. from Duke University, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology (1998) and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (2001) from the University of Arizona.[1] She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in 2002-2003.[1] She has received extensive professional training in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (2002) and mindfulness based stress reduction (1997, 1999, 2000), as well as studied mindfulness meditation in monasteries in Nepal and Thailand.[1]
Academic career
Shapiro has been an Assistant Professor (2003-2008) and Associate Professor (2008–present) at Santa Clara University’s graduate department of Counseling Psychology.[1] Shapiro has also held faculty positions at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (2008–present) and the Program of Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona Medical Center (2000-2004).[1] She currently hosts a Mindful Discipline course [2] and is available for consulting at Popexpert.[3]

Research
Shapiro’s research and clinical work focus on the applications of mindfulness to developing greater health and well being. Her work has addressed the effects of mindfulness on the individual, as well as its implications at the global level. Shapiro’s extensive clinical research has investigated the effects of mindfulness training across a wide array of populations, examining the impact of mindfulness in medicine, psychology, education, business and law.
Publications
Shapiro has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Additionally, Shapiro is the co-author of The Art and Science of Mindfulness: Integrating Mindfulness into Psychology and the Helping Professions and "Mindful Discipline: A Loving Approach to Setting Limits and Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child."
