Shamgarh is a town and a nagar panchayat in Mandsaur district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is an important railway station on Delhi-Mumbai Railway track where Almost every train (except Rajdhani Express) stops.
Geography
Shamgarh is located at 24°11′N 75°38′E / 24.18°N 75.63°E.[2] It has an average elevation of 459 metres (1505 feet). It is near to Mandsaur. Shamgarh is famous for Jangda Porwal's. There are so many families residing here belongs to Porwal Community. It is one of the Hindu Communities. It is also famous for Mansuri Community. There are many families living here since before independence. Local language of shamgarh is malwi as this belong to malwa region and most of the famous person like local leaders also used to speak this language.
Dharmrajeshwar
It has the 9th century monolithic temple of Dharmrajeshwara, carving it out of solid natural rock. The temple is carved out of a rock of size 50 metres in length, 20 metres in width and 9 metres deep. It has a sanctum with a Sabhamandapa and porch. The spire of the shrine is in the north Indian style. The architecture of Dharmarajesvara temple can be compared with Kailash Temple of Ellora. There is a big temple in the middle 14.53 metre in length and 10 metre in width. Divyanshu Ka Sasural. Around the main temple there are seven small temples. There is a big Shivalinga in the main temple along with a statue of Vishnu. Engraved on the entrance gate are figures of Vishnu and Lakshami. There are statues of Bhairava, Kali, Shiva, Garuda and Parvati. The temple seems to be devoted to both Shiva and Vishnu.
Sagoriya
It has a Shirine (Dargah) of Khwaja Hamiuddin Chisti alias Mitthe Mahawali Sarkar. It is 2 km away form Shamgarh
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[3] Shamgarh had a population of 21,455. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Shamgarh has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 59%. In Shamgarh, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Indian Premier League
There is a talk of having a new franchisee from Madhya Pradesh for IPL 2016 season onwards. Shamgarh is noted to be in consideration.
