Sand and Water is an album by Beth Nielsen Chapman. It was released in 1997 via Reprise Records. The title track was the only single released, peaking at number 22 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and number 2 on Bubbling Under Hot 100. Included on the album is "Happy Girl", which was later released as a single by Martina McBride in 1998.
The title track appeared in the first season of Charmed in the episode "Dead Man Dating" during Mark Chao's (John Cho) funeral. It also appeared in a 2000 episode of the medical drama ER of the same name, in which Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) is helpless to prevent the intubation of a comatose woman against the wishes of her partner because they are a same-sex couple, and therefore they have no legal standing. The song plays over a montage which includes Weaver performing the intubation while the other woman watches powerless.
