Saighan (also Saraik is also known as Saighan, Saighān, Saraik, Sarayek, Sarāyek, Sayghan, Sayghān, Seyghan, Seyghān.) is a district in Bamyan Province, Afghanistan. It has a population of 23,215 (As of 2003).[1] It was created in 2005 from part of Kahmard District, and until 2004 was part of Baghlan Province. Saighan city is the largest town in the district as well as being the administrative center.[1] The district has an area of 1,741 km2.[2] There are sixty-two villages in the district.[2] Tajiks make up 70%, whiled Hazaras make 27%. 3% is made up of the rest (Pashtuns)[3] Saraik Saraik is a populated place (class P - Populated Place) in Wilayat-e Bamyan (Bamian), Afghanistan (Asia) with the region font code of Russia/ Central Asia. It is located at an elevation of 2,005 meters above sea level. Saraik is also known as Saighan, Saighān, Saraik, Sarayek, Sarāyek, Sayghan, Sayghān, Seyghan, Seyghān.Its coordinates are 35°11'6" N and 67°43'16" E in DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds) or 35.185 and 67.7211 (in decimal degrees). Its UTM position is UD89 and its Joint Operation Graphics reference is NI42-02.Current local time is 20:30; the sun rises at 09:02 and sets at 21:09 local time (Asia/Kabul UTC/GMT+4.5). The standard time zone for Saraik is UTC/GMT+4.5 In 2015 DST starts on - and ends on -.A Populated place is a city, town, village, or other agglomeration of buildings where people live and work.[4] and[5]
Economics
The Da Eman Coal Deposits are located in Sayghan District, but have yet (As of 2008) to be fully commercially exploited.[2][6]
The majority of economic activity is agriculture: farming in the valleys, mostly wheat, potatoes and barley; and stock raising mostly sheep, donkeys and goats.[7]
