Syed Sadatullah Husaini (سید سعادت حسینی; born 1973) is the Vice President (Naib-e-Ameer) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH)[1] and also the member of Central Advisory Council of JIH.[2] He is former National President of Students Islamic Organisation of India. He heads the Study and Research Department of JIH as its Director. He is based in Hyderabad.
Brief biography
Sadat Husaini was educated in the Nanded town of Maharashtra, where he completed his graduate studies in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. During his student days he has been associated with Students Islamic Organisation of India and has been its President for two consecutive terms (1999–2003).[3]
Social activism
Sadat Husaini is the youngest member of the Markazi Majlis-e-Shura of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and is on the boards of many social and academic organisations in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and Aligarh.[4]
Globalization and capitalism
He is of the view that although Islam stands for globalization and universal brotherhood, modern globalization is a tool of exploitation and creates economic and social inequality. The globalization has resulted in the monopoly of western cultural and ethical values and has undermined the political sovereignty of the nation states.[5]
Feminism and women
Sadat Husaini is critical of both the traditional Muslim societies and the modern western societies for their treatment of women. According to him, the traditional Muslim societies have not given the women their due place and rights as stipulated by Islam, while the modern western societies have snatched from women the femininity and the very essence of womanhood in lieu of equality.[6]
Muslim Politics in India
Sadat is of the view that the right path for Muslims in plural societies like India is to engage in healthy dialogue with majority non Muslim communities and contribute positively in the nation-building. He has been critic of the conspiracy theories, blame games and ghettoist politics and has always urged the fellow Muslims to develop positive mental attitude and strengthen the communication channels with the majority community in India.[7]
Postmodernism
In an exclusive paper Sadat has argued that Postmodernism is logically incorrect notion and it is an extreme reaction of Modernism. According to him, the position of Islam that divinely revealed truths are absolute and all other truths are relative, is a perfectly balanced notion that is free from the contradictions of postmodernism. He has supported the Transmodernism notion of Ziauddin Sardar, and argued that Islam is a transmodern reality.[8]
Right to Education Act
The Right to Education Act (RTE) is passed by Indian Parliament. It holds the government responsible for providing education to every citizen of the country. Criticizing the RTE act, Mr. Sadat said that it finishes off minorities' constitutional rights and Muslims will not be able to run religious educational institutions and Madarsas.[9]
