SL Green Realty Corporation (NYSE: SLG) New York City's largest office landlord, is the only fully integrated real estate investment trust, or REIT, that is focused primarily on acquiring, managing and maximizing value of Manhattan commercial properties.

It was founded by Stephen L. Green in 1980 as SL Green Properties. It went public in 1997.[1]

History and business operations

The Company was formed in 1997 and comprised the core commercial real estate operations of S.L. Green Properties Inc., a company that was founded in 1980 by Stephen L. Green, the current Chairman of Green Realty. The company has been active in the industry for more than 25 years. Its business operations focus on the acquisition, redevelopment and relocation of office properties primarily located in Manhattan, as well as the re-leasing and management of these properties. Green Realty claims to be New York City’s largest office landlord and is a part of the S&P 500.

As of December 31, 2012, SL Green Realty Corp. is a fully integrated real estate investment trust, or REIT.

In 2007, SL Green acquired Reckson Associates Realty Corp. and added over 9 million square feet to its portfolio. This included roughly 3 million square feet of Class A office space located in Westchester, New York and Stamford, Connecticut.

As of March 31, 2015, SL Green held interests in 117 Manhattan buildings totaling 43.6 million square feet. This included 29.0 million square feet of commercial buildings and debt and preferred equity investments secured by 14.6 million square feet of buildings. In addition to its Manhattan investments, SL Green had ownership interests in 37 suburban buildings totaling 5.9 million square feet in Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester County, Connecticut and New Jersey.
