Canadian Ryan Hreljac was born May 31, 1991[1] the son of Susan and Mark Hreljac.

While still a child, began raising money for those affected by the global water crisis, and has since raised millions of dollars for water and sanitation projects in Africa. He quickly raised $2000 and his story became publicized.[2] His first well was built at Angolo Public School in northern Uganda.[3] As a result of his initiative and work, the Ryan's Well Foundation was established.

Ryan has five brothers. In 1999, Ryan met his pen pal Jimmy Akana when he visit Uganda. Jimmy attended Angolo Primary School, the location of the first well that Ryan funded. Ryan's family later adopted Jimmy, who graduated from high school with Ryan in June 2009. Ryan graduated from St. Michael's Catholic High School in Kemptville, Ontario, Canada in June 2009 and graduated from University of King's College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ryan graduated from the university.
