Roni Alsheikh (or Roni Alsheich, Hebrew: רוני אלשיך‎‎, born 20 March 1963), is the former deputy head of the Shabak and current Chief of Israeli Police (Since December 3, 2015).

Biography

Alsheikh was born in 1963 in Jerusalem to a Yemenite Jewish immigrant father and a mother of Moroccan Jewish descent.^[1] He was conscripted to the IDF in 1981 and joined the Paratroopers Brigade. Alsheikh went on the serve as a commander of the brigade's Engineer Company^[2] and as deputy-commander of the 50th battalion of the Nahal brigade. Alsheikh left the army in 1988 with the rank of Rav Seren (Major).

Alsheikh joined the Shabak in December 1988 and had been appointed as deputy director in September 2014. In September 2015, Minister of Public Security, Gilad Erdan announced Alsheikh nomination to be Israel's 18th Police General Commissioner.^[3][4][5]

Personal life

Alsheikh is married and the father of seven. He currently resides in Givat Shmuel, having previously lived in the West Bank Israeli settlements of Kokhav HaShahar and Kiryat Arba.

Alsheikh studied Political science and holds a BA from Haifa University and a MA from Tel Aviv University.
