Poraiyahat (also spelled Poreyahat, Pareyahat or simply Poreya) is a community development block that forms an administrative division of Godda district, Jharkhand state, India. It is located 26 km from Godda, the district headquarters.
Geography
Poraiyahat, the eponymous CD Block headquarters, is located at 24°40′41″N 87°10′19″E / 24.67806°N 87.17194°E.[1]
Poraiyahat CD Block has 31 panchayats and 194 villages.[2]
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India Poreyahat CD Block had a total population of 187,489, all of which were rural. There were 95,814 (51%) males and 91,675 (49%) females. Population below 6 years was 31,648. Scheduled Castes numbered 12,347 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 59,481.[3]
In 2011 census Pareyahat (village) had a population of 6,319. There was another large village, Deybandha, with a population of 4,020.[3]
Literacy
As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Poreyahat CD Block was 87,791 (56.33% of the population over 6 years) out of which 55,229 (63%) were males and 35,562 (37%) were females.[3]
As per 2011 census, literacy in Godda district was 57.40.[4]Literacy in Jharkhand (for population over 7 years) was 66.41% in 2011.[5]Literacy in India in 2011 was 74.04%.[6]
Economy
Agriculture
Around 80% of the population depends on agriculture, the main economic activity of the district but lack of irrigation facilities is a major constraint in raising the existing low levels of productivity. A sizable population is also engaged in animal husbandry and cottage industries.[7]
