Perak League is the state football league in Perak. It is one of the 14 others concurrent top-tier state level league in Malaysian football league system and a fourth-tier league in national level. The league is managed by the Perak Football Association.[1] The league has been established a long time where the earliest known records was in 1932.[2] The league has undergoes multiple iteration of structures until its current structure took place.

History

Origin

The Perak Football League or Perak League has been held for a long time. The first known records of the league was in 1932 where the champion for that year was Perak Chinese RC.[2]

Eventhough the Perak state football league was relatively unknown to outsiders, Perak state has been a source of clubs for Malaysia FAM League for years. Some of the recent team from Perak that currently and has been competing in the national third division are Ipoh, PKNP, YBU, UPB-MyTeam, TKN and others.

The league has not been managed properly for many years as the governance body of Perak state football, Perak Football Association (PAFA) has been focusing mainly on managing its own state football team and only shift its focus on the state league recently as it has surfaced again as an effort by PAFA to promote grassroots football in the state of Perak.[3] Although a competitive league should be played for at least six months every year in a single group league, the state league currently only been played as a tournament format of multiple groups with knockout format at the end of of the league. The reason were from the lack of management, infrastructure, and the high cost for a proper league. [4][5][6]

In 2014 and 2015, the Perak Amanjaya League was held where 24 teams from parliament in all around Perak compete in the tournament.[3][7] A football league in each parliament was also held as a method to find a suitable players to represent their area teams for the state league. Other than that a youth football and coaching clinics was also held in the state.

In 2016, the league has been revamped to feature a team representing the districts in Perak instead of parliament. Team with a district based identity were resurrect again after a long dormant state to be the base of the league in order to promote local area football community. Teams with the ethnic related players also was invited to join in order to promote more players from those ethnic to join the local football scene. The league which were created as follows. The league is now known as PAFA President Cup where a total of 16 teams participated in the league for 2016 season. 13 of those teams representing their area from the district of Perak and three others team representing the community in Perak.

2014 Perak League

The 2014 Perak Amanjaya League is the first season of the new Perak League.[3][7] The tournament was held from 13 September to 2 October 2014. A total of 24 teams from parliament in Perak compete for the trophy. All teams were divided into eight groups of three. The tournament use a round-robin system for the group stage followed by a knockout format for the semi-finals and final to decide the winners.

The 2014 edition was won by Lumut.[8]

2015 Perak League

The 2015 Perak Amanjaya League is the second season of the new Perak League.[9] The tournament was held from 22 September to 7 November 2015. A total of 24 teams from parliament in Perak compete for the trophy. All teams were divided into eight groups of three. The tournament use a round-robin system for the group stage followed by a knockout format for the semi-finals and final to decide the winners.

The 2015 edition was won by Ipoh Timor.[10][11]

2016 Perak League

For 2016 edition, the league has been revamped to feature a team representing the districts in Perak instead of parliament. The league is now known as PAFA President Cup where a total of 16 teams participated in the league.[12][13][14][15] All 16 teams are the affiliates of Perak Football Association. 13 of those teams representing their area from the district of Perak and three others team representing the community in Perak.
