PPA, Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura (Offshore Multipurpose Patrol Ship) is a new Frigate class of the Marina Militare.[6]
It is planned to replace 2 Durand de la Penne class destroyers, 8 Minerva class corvettes, 4 Comandanti class patrol vessels, 2 Sirio class patrol vessels and 4 Cassiopea class patrol vessels, between 2021/2035. With 2014 Naval Law, has been financed 7 vessels with 3 more on option[7]
