NoCO2 Certification Program

The NoCO2 Certification Program is a 'Climate Change actions' certification scheme administered by Australia’s Carbon Reduction Institute[1]

Program

The steps toward certification are as follows:

  1. Assess - to establish a carbon footprint or GHG emissions inventory
  2. Commit - to a target of GHG emissions
  3. Reduce – Reduce where possible, and outsource expensive reductions through carbon credits
  4. Monitor - to regularly report or disclose achievements in reducing GHG emissions
  5. Promote – To tell the world what you are doing

The Program provides 3 comprehensive certification levels that address the differences in quality of carbon neutral claims:

  1. NoCO2 Certification:[2] is for organisations that are carbon neutral, and have accounted for all emissions associated with operating the business.
  3. Carbon Neutral Product Certification:[3] is for products that have undertaken, and offset, a comprehensive Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
  5. LowCO2 Certification:[4] is for organisations that have committed to reduce their impact, through reduction strategies and offsets. LowCO2 certified organisations display the percentage of reduction in the centre of the logo.

Carbon neutral events can also be certified.[5]

Business example

The Agincourt Hotel in George Street, Sydney, Australia was an early recipient of a certificate.[6]
