Nishagandhi Puraskaram (Malayalam : നിശാഗന്ധി പുരസ്കാരം) is an annual award instituted in 2013 by the Tourism Department of Kerala in India to honour personalities in the fields of dance and music.[4][5] The award comprises a purse of 150,000 Rupees , citation, and statuette.[1] It is presented annually on behalf of the Nishagandhi Dance and Music Festival, a cultural programme organized by the Kerala Tourism Department every year.[6][7] The seven-day long festival is held in January at the Nishagandhi amphitheater near the Kanakakkunnu Palace in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala.[8][9] The award was introduced to popularise the Festival in the national and international level.[5]

The first Nishagandhi Puraskaram was awarded to the classical dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai in 2013.[2] Hindustani musician Lalith J. Rao won the award in the next year.[10] Dr Padma Subrahmanyam, an exponent in Bharata Natyam, won the award in 2015.[11] The most recent laureate is Mr Ilayaraja, who won the award in 2016 for his contribution to the Indian film music industry.[12]
