Nilphamari Government High School (Bengali: নীলফামারী সরকারী উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়) is a government secondary school in Bangladesh in the city center of Nilphamari, headquarters of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila and Nilphamari District.[2] In 2008 the school made a grand celebration of its 125th date of foundation.[3]
Location
The main entrance is beside the Nilphamari-Jaldhaka road. The Primary Training Institute is at the opposite of the school. District Education Office, District Education Engineering Office, District Primary Education Office and the Municipal Water Tank are in the area of the school. The city municipal office and house of District commissioner (DC) is at the west and south side of the school respectively.
The school playground is adjacent to the main municipal "Baramath" (Big field). There is a playground inside the school compound.
Foundation
Today’s Nilphamari Government High School was established by British Government in 1882. It was improved by local people. Landlords Rebti Mohan Chowdhury and Tomij Uddin Chowdhury donated 13.23 acres of land to spread the light of education in Nilphamari. The school stands on the land donated by them.
In 1914 the Old Red Building of the school was constructed. The school got regular government help throughout 1952 to 1967, and in 1968 it was nationalized.
Area
The school has a total area of 13.23 acre. It has one Old Red Building two new Academic Buildings, one science building, the Headmaster residence, Mosque, and a third storyed dormitory half a kilometer from the main academic building. The Library is in a spacious room inside the academic building; the Computer Lab is next to that. It has Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories.
Academic program
To improve the academic performance of the student regular SBA (School Based Assessment), guardian meeting, grade distribution etc. programs are held.
The school runs in two shifts: the morning shift sits at 7 a.m. and ends at 11:45 a.m.; the day shift starts at 12 p.m. and ends at 4:45 p.m.
The school has up to 1100 students from class 6 to 10.
Co-curricular activities
Nilphamari Government High School is renowned for education and for extra-curricular activities. It has playground where students can play and practice games. Every year inter-school handball and football tournaments are held on the playground.
Result
This school has good record in public examination. From 2008 students of this school attain 100% pass record in S.S.C. examination.[4] Nilphamari Government High School stands 10th among all school in Dinajpur Education Board at 2014 S.S.C. examination.[5]
