Niels Overweg

Niels Overweg (born 15 May 1948 in Amsterdam) is a former Dutch soccer player and Trainer.

History

At the age of nineteen Overweg belonged to the 1967/68 season first team of the former Eredivisie club AFC DWS. When the Amsterdam club the defender came in his first year as a pro to regular operations, but did not belong to the tribe squad. Only in the following year managed Overweg breakthrough and denied to 1972 per season always more than 31 league games. During this time the defender was able to gain first international experience and took with DWS '1966-1968 three times Inter-Cities Fairs Cup part. After the club in 1972 with other associations merged and the FC Amsterdam merged, Overweg moved this summer to league rival Go Ahead Eagles. Although he was always starting players, but neither Barry Hughes or later January Notermans there were successes. Only with the change to FC Twente did Overweg an important step in his career. Although he had to fight there with good competition, but mostly sat by. In seven years in Enschede, the team earned three times the fourth place in the league. The greatest triumph there was in KNVB Cup, to which some 3 1976/77: 0 against Zwolle PEC won. Two years earlier Overweg was with the team in the finals, but lost against the FC Den Haag with 0: beaten. 1 International yielded one attention than the FCT '1974-75 moved into the final of the UEFA Cup. There Overweg met with his team to the German representatives Borussia Mönchengladbach. After a 0: 0 away game, the team lost on home soil with 1: 5. Overweg stood in two games over the full season on the court. In the summer of 1981 Overweg changed after a successful time at Twente in the First Division to Drechtsteden'79. After two years he ended his active career.

1975 graduated Overwerg under then Bondscoach George Knobel four games in Dress the Netherlands. His debut was the defense on 17 May 1975 as he in the game against West Germany was at halftime for Frans Thijssen substitute. The game ended 1:1-Unentschieden.^[1] In a 1: 4 defeat to Poland was strongly criticized, after Overweg, made the defensive player his last international.

Coaching career After playing career Overweg went over into coaching. Between 1986 and 1987 he trained along with Hans Dorjee the Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem. After a three-year break, Overweg supervised 1990-1993 the-league Telstar from Velsen. In summer 1993 he became detached from Simon Kistemaker. In the 1994/95 season he replaced temporarily Fritz Korbach when SC Cambuur as Interim strainer, but was again soon replaced by Han Berger. Nine years later he was there again active as a youth coach. 2006 trained Overweg the amateur team of SC Franeker.
