Business career

Yates was born in to a family of vending machine industry pioneers. Both his father and grandfather enjoyed long careers as vending machines industry entrepreneurs. During a visit to National Automated Vending Association (NAMA) Expo in 2002 Yates had the idea to put healthy products in to a vending machine for the first time. Healthy Vending Pty Ltd was soon launched in Sydney, Australia as the world’s first healthy vending company.[1] In 2005 Yates sold the business and moved to San Diego, CA to launch what was then the United States first and only Healthy Vending company..[7] In June 2010, Yates registered and launched Fresh Healthy Vending International a franchise company which got listed on OTC.BB as a publicly traded entity trading under the stock symbol VEND which has now footprints 3,000 units throughout the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas..

In 2011 Yates launched the http://www.FreshandHealthy.Org initiative to educate decision makers in education facilities, health care systems and corporate business to remove junk food vending machines and replace them with healthy vending machines. The website offers financial grants to these locations. As of 2015 the initiative has donated over $400,000 in grants.
