NYS Music is an online news website dedicated to the music scene in and around New York state. NYSMusic.com was founded by Jim Gilbert and Pete Mason in January 2015 with the launch of its website NYSMusic.com. Gilbert and Mason first collaborated with each other while working for the online magazine UpstateLIVE. NYSMusic continues highlighting local, regional and national musicians with in-depth editorials and acclaimed photography.[1][2][3][4]
In 2015, NYS Music became a Google News source. In March 2016, the magazine surpassed the coveted 100,000 unique visitors a month mark.
In correspondence to the end-of-year collegiate basketball tournament, the magazine launches an annual March Madness bracketed tournament involving 64 bands who compete for votes in one-on-one match-ups. Past winners include Lucid (2014), moe. (2015) and Sprocket (2016).
