Miss World America 2016 was the 2nd edition of the Miss World America pageant held on July 8, 2016 at the National Harbor, Washington, D.C. Victoria Mendoza of Arizona crowned her successor Audra Mari of North Dakota at the end of the event.[1] she will represent the United States in the Miss World 2016 pageant on December 20 in Washington, D.C., United States.[2]
Just prior to the announcement of the official results, Sameera Khan, Miss World America finalist and former Miss New Jersey United States, while seated in the audience, disrupted the moment by making a political statement for Democracy Spring, a progressive social movement organization that uses campaigns of escalating nonviolent civil disobedience to "end the corruption of big money in politics and protect the right to vote for all Americans."[3][4] In a 14-second video clip - that she apparently recorded herself while holding her cellphone from a lower angle - she said: "I rise today in protest against corporate greed. Our democracy has been stolen, our voices have been silenced and plutocracy has taken over."[5][6] Quickly escorted off premises, Sameera Khan made history by being the first person ever to disrupt a pageant while videotaping herself.[7]
