Mirza Mehboob Beg
Dr Mehboob Beg Mirza (born 4 September 1949 Sarnal, Anantnag district) is an Indian politician,Currently Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)party’s Chief Spokesperson previously belonging to Jammu & Kashmir National Conference.[1] However, on 16 November 2014, Beigh announced his support to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, patron of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also decided to withdraw his candidature for 2014 Assembly elections from Anantnag constituency and instead campaign for Sayeed.[2] In the 2009 election he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency of Jammu & Kashmir.[3][4][5][6][7] On 16 November, Mehboob Beg declares support to rival People's Democratic Party saying that would campaign ‘door-to-door’ for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during the forthcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.[8]
A former minister and former parliamentarian, Dr Beg is in the State politics for the past more than two decades.
He was members of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for two terms during 1983-1987 and 2002–2008. During March 2009 to May 2009, he was member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. He is known for his party changing politics and has changed a dozen parties.
He is a medical practitioner and studied MBBS from Srinagar Medical College and resides at Srinagar. Has also served in the Cabinet as one of the ace ministers of the State,is widely hailed as a person who gave huge employment in South Kashmir in particular. A member of many prestigious Parliamentary Committees and winner of various awards including the best legislator award. Many political experts believe only he could have pulled-off a victory in the Parliamentary polls as 12 out of the 16 assembly seats in the Anantnag Parliamentary seat were held by the opposition PDP. despite this Beg pulled-off a famous win. He is the son of the stalwart Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, the former dy.CM of J&K and the first Kashmiri Muslim cabinet Minister. Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)appointed Dr Mirza Mehboob Beg as the party’s Chief Spokesperson. The announcement in this regard was made by the PDP President, Ms Mehboob Mufti
Personal life
He is married to Smt. Nighat Beg and has 1 son, Wasim Beg, and 2 daughters.[9]
