Biography
Weinholtz was a third generation factory worker in the Chevrolet factory in Buffalo, NY.[1][2] He attended night school while working full-time. He received his Bachelor of Science in management from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY, and a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, FL.[3]
Weinholtz served as President of CHG Healthcare Services from 1998 to 2012, and CEO from 1998 to January, 2015.[4] In 2014, Utah business magazine named him a CEO of the year.[5] He serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Salt Lake, the Women's Leadership Institute of Utah and the ACLU of Utah.[6] He is also a member of the Promise Partnership Regional Council for Education.[2]
Political career
Weinholtz was prompted to run by what he saw as a lack of leadership and accountability on Capitol Hill, stemming from the Republican Party's dominance of state government.[1] He was elected as the Democratic nominee for governor at the Utah Democratic Convention on April 23, 2016, defeating Vaughn R Cook with eighty percent of the delegate vote [7]
Political positions
Weinholtz is in favor of full Medicaid expansion, state employee health programs, and increased access to preventative care [8] He wants to raise teacher salaries and support public schools.[9] He supports raising the minimum wage.[10]
